Parents Arrested For Leaving Teens on Side of Highway

Eugene Police arrested a couple for leaving two teenagers on the side of the highway early Friday morning.

At 5:02 a.m. September 4, a 9-1-1 caller reported two juveniles on the side of I-105 near Delta Highway, attempting to wave down passing vehicles for assistance.
The officer located the teens, who were both 16, and reported they were in a dating relationship. The female had asked her mother, Alisa Marie Ward, 43, and stepfather, Patrick Barnard Culver, 42, both of Springfield, to pick the teens up and take them home. Ward and Culver arrived, and drove the teens on I-105 before a verbal dispute occurred between the Culver and the daughter's boyfriend.

That's when Culver pulled the vehicle over and told the boyfriend to get out and walk home. The girl followed.

Police contacted the parents at their home and cited both in lieu of custody for Reckless Endangering.

Woman Asleep at the Wheel in Traffic Arrested for DUII

Eugene police arrested a woman after she was reportedly passed out behind the wheel of her car at a four-way stop.

At 5:51 p.m. September 3, a caller told 9-1-1 the driver was at East 14th Avenue and Hilyard Street, asleep behind the wheel while the vehicle was running. The caller was able to wake up the driver, but the driver was still stopped at the intersection.
Officers arrived on scene and spotted the vehicle, parked in a nearby parking lot.

The driver — identified as Rheianna Antonia Christi Contreras, 31, of Eugene -- told police she was not asleep at the intersection, but was having car trouble. The officer spotted a partial ma*****na joint near the center console and Contreras admitted to smoking ma*****na that morning.

Contreras was given field sobriety tests and was ultimately arrested for DUII.
In addition to the joint, officers located fentanyl, ma*****na dab pens, dab sticks and pipes in her vehicle. Methamphetamine was located in her coat pocket.
A urine sample was attempted to be collected, but Contreras gave the officer a cup of clear, cold water instead. She later provided a urine sample for testing.

She was given an evaluation by a Drug Recognition Expert, who found her to be impaired from cannabis, narcotic analgesics and CNS stimulants.

Man Arrested at the Eugene Airport

Eugene police arrested a man early Thursday morning at the Eugene Airport for trying to get through TSA without a boarding pass.

At 4:15 a.m. September 3, a police officer working at the airport was contacted by several employees that Daniel Joseph Bevins, 42, of Iowa, was causing a disturbance at the airport.

A TSA Supervisor said Bevins did not have a boarding pass or any identification. When he was denied entry, he attempted to take someone else's boarding pass as it was being printed to be able to get through the TSA checkpoint. He also attempted to have an airline employee push him through the TSA checkpoint in a wheelchair but they refused because he lacked a boarding pass. Bevins then became loud and argumentative.

An airline employee told the officer Bevins did have a ticket previously but it had been cancelled sometime prior to the incident.

When officers contacted Bevins and told him to leave, he asked to be taken to jail.
Police arrested Bevins and he was lodged in the Lane County Jail on a charge of Second-Degree Criminal Trespass.

Eugene Police Arrest Security Guard for Assault

Eugene police arrested a security guard for an early morning assault on a man collecting cans Monday.

The incident occurred just before 4 a.m. August 31, on the 800 block of East 11th Avenue. The victim flagged down an officer and said he had been struck by a security guard five to six times with a metal flashlight.

The victim said there were no "no trespassing signs" as he collected cans from the dumpster area, when a security guard — later identified as Aaron Shepley Smith, 34, of Eugene -- told him to leave.

The victim gathered his belongings and his bag of cans, but Smith snatched the bag of cans and began walking away.

Smith then turned around and began to strike the victim with the flashlight and then ran away with the bag of cans.

Security camera footage captured the incident.

The victim was taken to the hospital for nonlife-threatening injuries.

Smith was arrested and taken to the Lane County Jail on a charge of Second-Degree Assault.

Man Arrested For Violating No Contact Order

Eugene Police arrested a man for violating his release agreement less than 24 hours after the agreement was signed.

At 1:46 a.m. September 3, a woman called 9-1-1 requesting an ambulance.

In the background, dispatch heard a male voice and knew the victim had a no contact order against Dustin Thomas Hill. That order had been signed at 10:03 a.m. September 2.

Officers arrived to an address on Catalina Street and contacted Hill at the front door. The victim was able to make her way past Hill and exit the residence. She was transported to the hospital by medics.

Hill shut the door on officers, however, and refused to come out. Additional officers arrived on scene and negotiated with Hill, who eventually exited the home but was not following directions. He attempted to go back inside the home, so less lethal options were utilized on Hill. He went back inside the home and negotiations continued until he eventually exited the residence again.

Hill was taken into custody but resisted arrest and was eventually taken to the ground. He pulled his arms away from officers but was finally handcuffed at 4:28 a.m.

Hill was lodged in the Lane County Jail for Violation of a No Contact Release Order, Harassment - Domestic Violence, Third-Degree Escape and Resisting Arrest.

Probably not worth the citation.

Man Arrested After Ramming Fence To Free Towed Vehicle

Eugene Police arrested a man, accused of trying to free a vehicle from a towing yard by ramming the car into a gate.

At 4:47 p.m. August 31, Eugene Police were called to a report of a disorderly subject at a towing company on the 100 block of Cleveland Street.
The caller told 9-1-1 a man came to the location to retrieve a vehicle in their secured parking lot. The man — later identified as Scott Lee Fergason, 54, of Cottage Grove — was unable to pay for the vehicle and an argument ensued.

Fergason then climbed over the barbed wire fence, got inside of the vehicle in the lot, and rammed the gate, causing extensive damage estimated around $2,500.

A forklift was parked in front of the gate to block the vehicle from leaving.

Officers arrived and arrested Fergason who admitted to using methamphetamine that day.

Fergason was arrested and lodged at the Lane County Jail on charges of First-Degree Criminal Mischief and Second-Degree Criminal Trespass.
