Early Childhood CARES

Early Childhood CARES Early Childhood CARES provides early intervention and early childhood special education services to children ages birth to five years living in Lane County.

Early Childhood CARES provides Early Intervention (EI) and Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) services to children from birth to school age who have developmental delays or disabilities. Referrals may come from anyone. The most common referrals come from parents, preschool teachers, physicians and other public agencies. All services are free of charge to eligible children. Early Childhood CARES is funded by the Oregon Department of Education.

For our families in Eugene School District 4J who will be transitioning to kindergarten in the fall, check out these upcoming kinder touchpoints:

Kindergarten Orientations April 28th-30th: Each school hosts their own Kindergarten Orientation April 28-30. Find your school's orientation date and time: https://4j.lane.edu/kinderorientation These are family friendly and your chance to learn about your school and meet staff and other families. We encourage all incoming kinder families to attend. We can't wait to meet you!

Kindergarten Welcome Event on May 8th- Eugene School District 4J is hosting our 4th annual district wide Kindergarten Welcome Event on May 8th from 5-7:00 at 120 W Hilliard Ln. Join us as we welcome all our incoming kinder families with a big celebration including arts and crafts, story time, book give away, community partners, raffle prizes, food trucks, playground fun, and more!

KITS (Kids In Transition to School) Summer Program is FREE and open to all incoming kinder families. Application is open April 10th- May 10th. We will run a lottery and let families know about placement on May 14th. Learn more about KITS here: https://4j.lane.edu/kinderkits
KITS runs July 6 - August 13th.

Eugene School District 4J Special Education Parent Night on April 23!

4J's Student Services Department will hold a parent education night on Thursday, April 23, to provide information about community resources available for students receiving special education services.

The session will be held from 5:30–7 p.m. in the auditorium of the 4J Education Center, 200 N. Monroe St. Families can learn more about community resources and activities available for their students and how to access them. Representatives of various organizations will be available to discuss educational opportunities, camps and enrichment activities in the community.

There will be free snacks and a raffle for prizes, including free passes to Splash at Lively Park and Adventure! Children’s Museum. Children are welcome to attend, but no child care will be provided.
