The Pre-Approved ADU Library is now FULL! We hope this is the best treat of the season. Now available are 13 magical designs that have been pre-approved.

As a part of a sophisticated suite of housing production strategies, this program is a true labor of love that demonstrates a constructive private sector + public sector partnership. Can it be improved? Yes - and we will be reaching out to interested parties, contributing architects, and property owners to discuss the next steps and versions of the program.

Thank you to the contributing architects. This program would not exist without you. Your design wizardry and superpowers made this program go from a novel idea to reality. You raised it to a new level of professionalism, legitimacy, and innovative creativity. We are grateful and we look forward to seeing where we can all take it.

New ADU Day! 🏡

Eugene, meet Klamath by Cultivate, Inc.

This 2-bedroom, one-bath ADU strikes a balance between sustainability and affordability by combining high-performance design with simple construction. Its compact footprint, stacked walls, and straightforward geometry are complemented by an energy efficient building envelope with:

✨ well-insulated 2x8 walls
✨ airtight construction
✨ triple-pane windows

The home targets carbon positive performance with optional rooftop solar panels able to generate more energy than the home uses in a year. This, coupled with highly efficient mini split heat pumps and a heat pump water heater, also means very low energy bills.

Cultivate Inc. continues to show up to this work. Such good solutions with so much character.

To learn more, see all the designs, and get inspired, follow the Pre-Approved ADU Program link in our bio.

📣 🏠 Public Meeting: Rental Housing Cost Burden in Eugene

The City of Eugene invites you to a public meeting with the Eugene Planning Commission on the topics of Affordable Housing and Severe Rent Burden.

When: Tuesday, December 12, 2023, 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

Where: Virtual Meeting - the meeting agenda with information on how to participate is here: www.eugene-or.gov/835/Planning-Commission-Meetings

Why: Under Oregon State Law, communities with high percentages of households with “severe rent burdens”, meaning households that pay more than 50% of their income for rental housing cost, must hold a public meeting each year. Eugene has been identified as a Severely Rent Burdened community since the HB 4006 law went into effect in 2018.

During the meeting, staff will present information on the causes, consequences, and barriers to reducing rent burdens, as well as explore potential solutions in Eugene. The Eugene Planning Commission will receive an update on notable and upcoming projects and planning efforts to address rent burden.
