Jax was at it again last night! A suspect in a violation of restraining order case fled his house on foot. He jumped a fence and ran through a slough, evading officers. Jax and Officer Palki gave chase. The suspect fought with officers after Jax found him, but he was no match once Jax joined the fray. Good boy - again!

Another night, another capture for K9 Jax! He and Officer Palki responded around midnight to a prowler trying door handles and tampering with security cameras at a local restaurant. The suspect fled to a nearby residential yard. Jax sniffed him out, allowing patrol to safely take the bad guy into custody. Good boy!

Jax is EPD's most experienced K9. Here he is in 2019, shortly after starting his partnership with Officer Palki. After more than five years together, they're still crushing it. Last night, they located a robbery suspect who fled from Target and tried to hide in some bushes. It was easy work for Jax and his mature sense of smell!

K9 Nico- he's our newest team member - snagged second place overall at the Springfield Police Department - Oregon K9 competition today! Officer Casey is thrilled to start with his new partner. Meanwhile, salty dogs Ayk and Kuiil also medaled. Great work!

Thank you for every moment, buddy.

I spent more time with you over the last five years than I did with my family, my friends, anyone. It wasn't enough.

Thank you for helping catch bad guys one day and comforting kids the next. Thank you for bringing joy to my life and to so many others.

The day I got you, I sat in the car with you and told you over and over again you'd crush it. You did. I hope now you're chasing birds or swimming somewhere.

You can rest now. I will think and dream of you often.

K9 Ayk (pronounced Ike) and Officer Thomas ended their week with a textbook capture. LCSO called for assistance with a burglary suspect who ran from the crime scene. Ayk sniffed him out after he bedded down in a grass field. Great work!

What a shift for Cwyk! Officers located a stolen car ditched in a residential neighborhood. Cwyk put his nose to the pavement, tracking to a residential backyard. He sniffed out two suspects who’d broken into a trailer and hidden inside. Cwyk and his officers took those suspects into custody.
A short time later, called for assistance with a wanted subject who fled from a traffic stop. Cwyk again followed his nose to the suspect who unsuccessfully tried to blend into some bushes. When the dust settled, Cwyk had three captures in a 90 minute span!

Teamwork! Kuiil and Cwyk covered more than four miles in an exhaustive search for a dangerous felon this morning. Eventually Kuiil found the exhausted suspect hiding in the brush on Skinner's Butte. Good boys!
