📢 PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: TRAINING EXERCISE 📢
The Eufaula Fire Department, in partnership with other local fire departments, local law enforcement, EMS, and Air Care will be conducting a large-scale mock DUI crash simulation at Eufaula High School on May 7th, 2026.
We want to ensure our community is informed so there is no unnecessary alarm when the exercise begins.
What you need to know:
• WHEN: 10 AM to 11 AM
• WHERE: In front of Eufaula High School on Anderson Bell
• WHAT TO EXPECT: You will see a large presence of emergency vehicles, including fire trucks, ambulances, and police cruisers. A medical helicopter is also scheduled to land as part of the simulation.
• NOISE/VISUALS: There may be simulated smoke, the sound of hydraulic rescue tools (the "Jaws of Life"), and sirens.
Why are we doing this?
This exercise is a vital training tool for our first responders and a powerful educational moment for our students. It allows us to practice the complex, life-saving maneuvers required in a real-world crash while highlighting the devastating consequences of impaired driving.
⚠️ IMPORTANT: Access to Anderson Bell may be restricted during this time. Please plan your routes accordingly and use caution when driving near the school.
Thank you for your continued support as we train to keep the City of Eufaula safe!

Thank you to F&S Automotive for their generous donation to the Eufaula Fire Department! Your support makes a meaningful difference in keeping our community safe and strong, and we're proud to have local small businesses like yours who give back in such impactful ways.

The City of Eufaula truly appreciates the vital role small businesses play in supporting our community and helping it thrive.

We had a promotion for the month of March offering to donate $10 of every alignment we performed to the Eufaula Fire Department. Chief Cantrell showed us around the new firehall and the plans for bringing fulltime paid firefighters to Eufaula. We are proud to make a $250 donation to them to help bring these plans to life. We couldn't have done it without the continued support of our customers! Thank you and safe driving!

🚨 WEATHER ALERT: SEVERE WEATHER POTENTIAL THIS WEEK 🚨

The Eufaula Fire Department and McIntosh County Emergency Management are closely monitoring an active weather pattern moving into our area starting Wednesday, March 4, through the upcoming weekend.

📅 What to Expect:
Wednesday (March 4): High chances of thunderstorms (up to 90%). The main concerns will be heavy rainfall and the potential for severe hail as a cold front moves through.

Thursday – Saturday (March 5-7): An unsettled pattern continues with additional rounds of storms. Friday and Saturday carry a high probability of heavy rain (up to 2.5 inches possible by Saturday night), which could lead to localized flash flooding.

Wind & Fire Danger: Before the rain arrives, expect gusty south winds up to 30-35 mph. Even with higher humidity, please use caution with any outdoor burning.

🛡️ How to Prepare:
Stay Informed: Have multiple ways to receive alerts (NOAA Weather Radio, local news, or a reliable weather app).

Review Your Plan: Know where your "safe place" is—whether at home, work, or school.

Secure Loose Items: High winds can turn patio furniture and trash cans into projectiles. Secure them before the storms arrive.

Turn Around, Don't Drown: With heavy rain in the forecast for Friday and Saturday, never drive through flooded roadways.

We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary. Your safety is our top priority!

Stay safe, Eufaula!

An active severe weather pattern is expected later this week. All severe weather hazards, including large hail, severe wind gusts, and tornadoes, are possible. Very large (2+ inch) hail may occur on Thursday and Friday.

🚨 CRITICAL FIRE ALERT: Red Flag Warning Issued for Eufaula & McIntosh County 🚨

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for our area starting tomorrow morning.

What is a Red Flag Warning?
A Red Flag Warning is the highest fire alert possible. It means "The Perfect Storm" for wildfires is happening right now. It is triggered by a dangerous trifecta:

Bone-Dry Air: Humidity is dropping so low that grass and brush become like paper.

High Heat: Unseasonably warm temperatures bake the vegetation, making it ignite instantly.

Strong Oklahoma Winds: Sustained winds and high gusts are expected. This is the most dangerous part—wind acts as a fan for the flames and can carry embers miles away to start new fires.

How dangerous is this?
In these conditions, fire behavior becomes unpredictable and explosive. A fire that starts in a ditch or a backyard can grow to the size of a football field in seconds. Because the wind is so strong, even our firefighters can struggle to "get ahead" of the flames. This isn't just about losing grass; it’s about losing homes, livestock, and lives.

What you MUST do:
🚫 NO OUTDOOR BURNING: Do not burn trash, brush, or use fire pits. No exceptions.

🚜 Avoid Equipment: Postpone mowing dry grass or using welding equipment. A spark from a blade hitting a rock is enough.

⛓️ Check Your Tow: If you're hauling a boat or trailer, make sure your chains aren't dragging. Sparking chains are a leading cause of roadside fires.

🚬 Dispose Safely: Never toss a cigarette out of a car window.

Let’s watch out for each other. If you see smoke tomorrow, don’t wait—call 911 immediately. Early reporting is the only way to stop a fire when the "Red Flag" is flying.

Stay safe, Eufaula! 🚩🚒

As this afternoon's winter storm approaches, we want to make sure everyone in McIntosh County is prepared. Heavy snow, ice, and dangerously cold wind chills are possible.

Heating-related fires are a leading cause of home fires during the winter. Please take a moment to review these safety tips before the storm hits:

⚠️ Space Heater Safety
3-Foot Rule: Keep anything that can burn (bedding, curtains, furniture, paper) at least 3 feet away from any heat source.

Plug Direct: Never use an extension cord or power strip with a space heater. They draw a lot of power and can easily overheat, causing a fire. Plug them directly into a wall outlet.

Turn it Off: Always turn off space heaters when you leave the room or go to bed.

🔌 Electrical Cords & Power Outages
Inspect Cords: Check for frayed or damaged cords. If it's damaged, don't use it!

Downed Lines: If the ice causes power lines to fall, stay at least 35 feet away and report it immediately. Assume every downed wire is live and dangerous.

Flashlights over Candles: If the power goes out, use flashlights or battery-powered lanterns. Avoid candles, which are a major fire risk during outages.

🔥 Alternate Heating Sources
Generators: NEVER run a generator inside your home, garage, or crawlspace. Carbon monoxide is a silent killer. Keep generators outside, at least 20 feet away from windows and doors.

No Stoves/Ovens: Never use your kitchen oven or gas range to heat your home. This is a fire hazard and a major CO poisoning risk.

Fireplaces: Ensure your chimney was cleaned recently and always use a sturdy screen to stop sparks from flying into the room.

🏘️ Check on Neighbors
Keep an eye on the elderly and those living alone. A quick phone call or a knock on the door can make a huge difference during an Oklahoma winter storm.

In case of an emergency, call 9-1-1. Stay warm and stay safe, Eufaula!
