Save the date
July 4th from 11 am until we run out.
If there are any bakers out there, willing to donate some desserts, the EVFD would be in your debt till the end of days (lol).. but really, we could use your help.

Around 5:30 PM on Thursday, June 1, the Etoile Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to assist with a wildfire on North FM 226. The fire was located in a wooded area approximately two miles from the Etoile School campus. Our mutual aid partner, the Kingtown Volunteer Fire Department, requested assistance.

Upon arrival, crews found a 2- to 3-acre wildland fire actively burning. One team attacked the fire from the west side while another worked from the east side. By surrounding the fire and coordinating suppression efforts, firefighters were able to bring it under control within approximately one hour.

Once the fire was contained, the incident was turned over to the Texas A&M Forest Service. A bulldozer was used to establish a firebreak around the perimeter, reducing the risk of reignition.

The Etoile Volunteer Fire Department responded with Tanker 1, Brush 1, Brush 2, and four firefighters. Additional personnel were on standby at the for assistance, if needed.

The scene was cleared, and all personnel and apparatus returned to the station by 7:00 PM.

Thursday nights training was pretty informative.
They were circulating the water in one truck, transferred some into another truck (those are very technical terms BTW)!
They need to keep going through the steps, during non stressful situations, so it’s second nature, during, say, a fire!!!!
Don’t want to forget those steps.
It’s was fun to watch.

This past Thursday, the Etoile volunteer fire department conducted training with our new firefighting skid unit. The skid unit has a 300 gallon tank, but that will not last very long when fighting a wildfire. To compensate for this, the pump has the ability to draft water from a different source. That source could be the lake, swimming pool, a pond or what we used in training, our 2500 gallon dump tank.

For our training, each member went through a drill of practicing to draft from the dump tank. We also used some of this time to experiment with the pump. It’s a during training that we want to learn the strength, weaknesses, and points of failure, not while trying to fight a fire

The early wildfire outlook for East Texas this summer is starting to raise some concern.

National fire forecasters are predicting above normal wildfire potential for parts of East Texas during June and July 2026. Right now, recent rains and spring green-up are helping keep conditions stable, but that could change quickly with extended heat, wind, and dry weather.

Here are a few important reminders as we move into summer:

1. Use caution with outdoor burning, campfires, welding, and equipment that can throw sparks. During dry periods, one small mistake can start a major wildfire.

2. Stay weather aware and pay attention to local burn bans and changing fire conditions throughout the summer.

3. The Etoile Volunteer Fire Department needs help. Our department currently has 14 members with an average age around 60 years old, and 6 of our members are over 70 years of age. Of those 14, only about 8 are active responders, and wildfire season wears us down physically and mentally. If you have ever considered volunteering, now is the time. Communities like ours depend on local people stepping up.

Training is on Thursday nights at 6:00 PM. Get trained and equipped now, before wildfire season is fully upon us.

This is a clear example of “it takes a village.” The Etoile Volunteer Fire Department could not successfully host fundraising events like our Fish Fry and BBQ without the support of our community. This year’s Fish Fry was no exception. Preparing, cooking, and serving more than 250 plates required the help of local businesses, generous dessert donations from our Etoile bakers, and volunteers who gave their time on the day of the event.

A sincere thank you to everyone who baked and contributed desserts. Your effort, creativity, and willingness to support the department added a special touch to the meal and were greatly appreciated.

We also extend our gratitude to those who volunteered their time and energy to make the event a success:

Ricky Alvis, Leslie Thrall, Marvin Henderson, Cindy Henderson, Denise Fisher, Sara Burnett, Kent Burnett, Paul Free, and Sierra Bishop.

Every expense we avoid is another dollar that goes directly toward supporting the fire department. Thanks to the generosity of local businesses, we were able to host this event with minimal cost. Special thanks to Betty Stordalen for her exceptional effort in securing those donations—spending countless hours knocking on doors, calling businesses, visiting companies in person, and coordinating pickups. Her dedication played a significant role in making this event successful.

We appreciate the support of:
Daniel Miller, Clay Gilstrap – A1 Recycling, McAlister’s Deli, Buffalo Wild Wings, Catfish King, IHOP, Lone Star Charlie’s, Logan’s Steakhouse, Chili’s, and Outback Steakhouse.

Your continued support makes a meaningful difference and helps ensure that the Etoile Volunteer Fire Department can continue serving our community.

On Thursday morning around 8:00 a.m., at the request of Revenant Energy, the Etoile Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to the site of the gas rig explosion that occurred the previous Monday night. Etoile was tasked with containment and suppression of several peripheral fires along the edge of the drilling pad, including burning trailer decks, pallets, and miscellaneous equipment.

Etoile responded with an engine, tanker, and brush truck, along with five firefighters. Crews operated in two-person teams using self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), rotating as air tanks were depleted and fatigue set in.

The effort lasted approximately five hours and required about 5,000 gallons of water and 12 gallons of foam. An additional two hours were spent decontaminating apparatus and gear.

Beyond the firefighting effort, this response also reflects strong partnerships and teamwork. Revenant Energy has been a consistent supporter of the Etoile Volunteer Fire Department and maintained communication with EVFD even before drilling operations began. They continue to stay in contact as they work through this situation.

Internally, the response highlighted cooperation across the department. While some members assigned to organize an upcoming fish fry were deployed to the scene, others stepped in to handle those responsibilities. When SCBA air tanks ran low, additional personnel delivered replacements to the site. As fuel supplies for pump engines diminished, another member transported gasoline to keep operations going. This level of support ensured continuity of operations and reflects a team that works together effectively when it matters most.
