ETNA POLICE DEPARTMENT: PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

The Etna Police Department would like to make the community aware of a recent uptick in vehicle break-ins and thefts from vehicles occurring in the Fort Jones area.

While our community is generally very safe and we are fortunate to live in a small town where neighbors look out for one another, we have seen several unlawful vehicle entries and thefts from vehicles, in the late night to early morning hours.

Please take the following precautions:
• Lock your vehicle doors, even if parked in your driveway.
• Do not leave valuables, wallets, fi****ms, purses, or electronics inside your vehicle.
• Remove garage door openers or secure them out of sight.
• Consider exterior lighting or camera systems if available.

Community Assistance Requested:
If you live in the Fort Jones area and have security cameras, please review footage from the late night/early morning hours for any suspicious activity.

If you observe anything suspicious or have relevant footage, please contact us at 530-841-2900 (Option #9).

If you believe you are a victim of theft, even if the loss seems minor. Please report it. Reporting helps us identify patterns, time frames, and suspect descriptions.

As always, we appreciate our community’s support and partnership in keeping Scott Valley safe.

Roses are red 🌹
Violets are blue 💐
If you steal your Valentine’s gifts…
We will arrest you. 🚔

It’s Valentine’s Day — a time for love, affection, and apparently… retail theft.

Yesterday morning, one man decided the best way to someone’s heart was through the self-checkout line without actually checking out.

Alert supermarket employees noticed he “forgot” to scan a floral arrangement and a greeting card and confiscated them. Instead of accepting defeat like Cupid intended, he snatched the flowers and card back on his way out and grabbed some balloons too. 💐🎈

Total haul: a tad over $100 in merchandise.

Because nothing says romance like petty theft.

Employees provided officers with a description and the license plate of his Infiniti. It led to an address only about a half a mile away, where officers found the car parked.

Officers also learned the registered owner matched the suspect’s description, was on felony probation for domestic violence, and had multiple restraining orders prohibiting him from being near the woman at that residence. Ruh roh.

After ignoring officers’ commands for 10–15 minutes (bold strategy), he finally exited and was detained.

His Valentine’s Day evening plans now include a lovely stay at the Solano County Jail for violating probation and court orders. 💘➡️🚔

Pro tip:
If you’re trying to impress someone, jail is not a love language.

However you’re spending today — coupled up, single, thriving, surviving, or rolling your eyes at the whole thing — we hope it’s safe, legal, and drama-free! 💕
