This afternoon we received the call no one expected. Former Fire Chief David Pendergraff passed away unexpectedly this afternoon. Chief Pendergraff spent a lifetime committed to serving and protecting the citizens of Estill Springs. He mentored and inspired many firefighters over the years and was a living example of dedication. We ask that your thoughts and prayers are with the family at this time as they grieve their loss. Chief Pendergraff we appreciate you, we love you, and you will be missed.

Six of Estill Springs Firefighters went to Nashville on Sunday, 9-7-25 to honor those fallen in the tragic terrorist attack in New York 24 years ago. We climb for those who cannot anymore, those who gave the ultimate sacrifice, those who left families behind that are still suffering over their loss and for those still affected by illnesses developed from that day.

We are honored to climb for them and we are honored to volunteer for the community we serve in Estill Springs.

We will be testing our weather siren tonight. This will only be a test for the volume of the audible alarm. It is not due to inclement weather.

Estill Springs Fire Department volunteers hosted an Intro to Low Angle Rope Rescue on 5-3 and 5-4-25. A thank you to Decherd Fire Department, who also had members participate in the course with us, lending to the knowledge base we have gained. A special thanks to Clint Walker, Kipp Luttrell, and our own Lt. Christian Steele from Tennessee Fire And Codes Academy for sharing their knowledge and experience with us.

The course was very beneficial to our department and our community. It will provide us with the education and practice needed to further assist our community when rescues are needed in the steeper areas of our district.

On Tuesday February 7th around 3:30pm, the Estill Springs Volunteer Fire Department along with mutual aiding departments responded to a structure fire on Oak Hill Dr. With reports of someone still inside the structure, crews made entry and were safely able to remove the subject through a window in the rear of the home. During operations following a short period, one firefighter fell through a set of stairs into the basement of the structure. Due to quick work by fellow firefighters, the firefighter walked out of the structure under his own power in a matter of minutes. This same firefighter was transported to the hospital for some scrapes and a minor burn. He was released a few hours later that evening and is doing very well. We are also staying in touch with the family of the fire on the condition of their loved one. We would like to ask everyone to keep them in their thoughts and prayers in the days coming forward. We would also like to take this time to thank our mutual aiding departments, several key members have not been named in other posts. This was a group effort all the way around and it is because of the actions of the firefighters as a whole that we were able to achieve the outcome we did. The cause and origin of the fire is still under investigation at this time and we are working with law enforcement to determine such. We appreciate all the support we are seeing from the community and we will continue to try to better ourselves to provide the service the community deserves.
