******UPDATE*******
The USCG found no distress and the vessel most likely drifted off someone’s property. We did not find any identifying info. This brings up an important point. Please label all vessels with some sort of contact info. This will allow us to quickly contact you or a family member to confirm distress or not. When there is no distress these cases tie up valuable resources and wastes money. If you are uncomfortable putting personal info on your equipment we desperately need a phone call should you notice your vessel, pool toy or any floatation device you own drifts away into a navigable waterway. The only time anyone can face penalties is if there was a malicious intent to deceive the USCG.

******HAPPENING NOW******

The USCG has received a report of an unmanned/adrift vessel in the St. Clair river just south of Algonac State Park. The USCG is actively searching the local area with a helicopter from U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Detroit and the CGC BRISTOL BAY ; if anyone has any information concerning this vessel please call the SEC Detroit Command Center at 313-568-9560

Hey there, mid-Michigan!
Be sure to say “hi” to your local Coast Guardsmen at the Bay City State Park’s Winter Festival tomorrow, February 19th!
A Coast Guard crew from USCG Station Saginaw River will be there to show off our new airboat, demonstrate our Ice Rescue skills, and to talk to local sportsmen about ice safety. There will also be a USCG helicopter flyover around noon and recruiters from Go Coast Guard Detroit to answer questions from potential recruits!
We hope to see you there!

SAGINAW RIVER/ BAY CITY, MI:

The U.S. Coast Guard would like to remind all those recreating on the ice in the vicinity of the Liberty Bridge in Bay City, MI to practice extreme caution.
Ongoing bridge repairs have resulted in a large open water area near the bridge. This is especially dangerous for snowmobilers, ice fisherman, and anyone else who transits on the ice-covered Saginaw River.
We recommend only transiting the river during good lighting and visibility conditions, not transiting alone, and having various mean to signal distress in case of emergency.
In the event of an emergency, Coast Guard Ice Rescue teams can be requested by dialing 911, calling Mayday on Marine VHF ch.16, or by calling the USCG station directly.
