Maybe you’ve already seen this signage, but just in case. New York State Department of Transportation will be paving Route 22 north of Essex to the tennis/pickleball courts.

According to DOT, the project will start on 6/2/26, and last about 2 weeks. Barrett Paving is doing the paving. The project entails a 0.5” asphalt shim course placed first, then a 1.5” asphalt top course, then some shoulder backup gravel and pavement striping.

WILLSBORO | DOT advising motorists that Route 22 in Willsboro will be reduced to one lane with alternating flows of traffic controlled by flaggers beginning Tuesday, June 2, through approximately Friday, June 12.

Part of my morning today was spent with Director of Weights and Measures Dan Woods at the Stewarts in Port Henry. Dan reports monthly to the Public Safety Committee that I Chair and I wanted to learn more about what the does for county residents.

Dan travels all around Essex County ensuring that tools and equipment used for measuring as well as weighted good that you may purchase on a grocery or convenience store are precise; that you’re not getting any more or any less than what you’re paying for.

He arrives to random locations unannounced in all 18 towns throughout the year to ensure fairness with all things weighted and measured.

It was great to observe him in his process and to learn about what goes into this part of his work. In the near future, I’ll be joining him on a trip to a convenience store to see how he handles weighted grocery items selected randomly from shelves.

Next time you pump gas in Essex County, look for his seal on the pump. I’m confident he’s been there, and will be there again. 🤩

A swooping owl, a startled whitetail, a chirpy veery, a bunch of singing froglets, a beautiful orange sunset through the trees and a carpet of forget-me-nots greeted me on a hike through the Essex Quarry this evening.

And a few hungry mosquitoes 🦟🩸

Beggs Park update.

🛝Perimeter fencing has been tightened up as the project winds down. More green space has been opened up for public use.

🏗️The fencing for the roof has been installed except for a backordered gate. This fencing is require for code compliance, so it’s a major step in the right direction

⚡️The fencing for the backup generator has finally been installed. This too is required for code compliance. Progress.

What’s next?
📋 Interior electrical work, pending delivery of an auto-dialer scheduled for week of 5/25

📋Final site visit by filtration manufacturer 6/1 through 6/4 for anticipated plant startup

📋Coordination with NYSDOH - New York State Health Department and NYS Department of Environmental Conservation on startup sampling requirements

📋Run the new plant for 2-3 weeks before abandoning and removal of temporary plant trailer
