Essex Fire Department Welcomes the Kindergarten Class!

This week, the Essex, MA Fire Dept. was proud again to host this year’s Essex Elementary School kindergarten class. This long‑standing tradition is something our members look forward to every year — it’s just as exciting and fun for us as it is for the kids.

Thank you to the teachers and students for spending the morning with us. Sharing fire safety, exploring the trucks, and seeing their enthusiasm reminds us why community connections matter so much.

We can’t wait to welcome next year’s class!

🌩️⚡ What a weekend for our telecommunicators.

As severe weather moved through the region, call volume skyrocketed. In just over five hours, our center processed more than 200 incidents related to storm damage while handling hundreds of incoming and outgoing phone calls. Reports of downed trees, wires, power outages, flooded roadways, and storm damage were coming in faster than they could be cleared.

Then, just as the weather-related calls began to slow down, another surge hit. Residents across the area began calling about the mysterious sonic boom that rattled homes and businesses throughout the region.

Through it all, our team remained calm, professional, and focused. Calls were answered, responders were dispatched, partner agencies were notified, and critical information continued to flow despite the overwhelming volume.

A special thank you goes out to the telecommunicators who answered the call for help and came in from home to assist. Their willingness to give up personal time and jump into an already busy operation ensured we had the staffing needed to support our communities during an exceptionally demanding day.

While many people experienced the storm from the safety of their homes, our staff were hard at work behind the scenes ensuring help reached those who needed it.

We are incredibly proud of every member of our team for their adaptability, teamwork, and dedication. Days like these are a reminder that public safety communications is truly a team effort, and this team rose to the occasion.

👏 Thank you for everything you do.
