🚔🚒 Working Together to Keep Española Safe

Last night, the City of Española Police Department, with support from the Española Fire Department, conducted a DWI checkpoint as part of our continued commitment to keeping our community and roadways safe.

These efforts are about more than enforcement—they’re about preventing impaired driving, addressing illegal activity, and protecting our families, neighbors, and everyone traveling through our community.

We want our residents to know that our public safety teams are out there, working together and taking proactive steps to make Española a safer place for all of us.

A sincere thank you to the officers, firefighters, and personnel who worked throughout the night to protect our community. 💙❤️

Please do your part: Never drink and drive. Plan ahead, designate a sober driver, and help us keep Española safe.

The City of Española is proud to recognize La Fonda del Sol Restaurant for earning the Sello M distinction from the Mexican Academy of Gastronomy and Mexico’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

This distinction is an official global recognition awarded to international restaurants, food trucks, and culinary projects to honor establishments that preserve traditional recipes, use authentic ingredients or techniques and share Mexican culture with integrity.

La Fonda del Sol is the only restaurant in New Mexico to have been awarded this distinction.

Join us in congratulating them on this awesome achievement.

Tri-Governmental Partnership: Working Together for Our Region

Today, the City of Española joined Los Alamos County and Rio Arriba County for a joint meeting focused on the Regional Landfill Feasibility Study and the next steps toward exploring a regional approach to solid waste management.

This important discussion brought together representatives from all three governments to review the feasibility study and discuss opportunities for continued partnership on this regional project.

Mayor Dennis Tim Salazar and City Manager Michael Ortiz are excited about the opportunity to work alongside Los Alamos County and Rio Arriba County as we explore solutions that can benefit our communities and strengthen our region for years to come.

The City of Española looks forward to continued partnership and thoughtful planning as we move this project forward. Together, we can work toward regional solutions that serve the needs of our residents and communities.

The work continues. The partnerships are growing stronger. And Española is moving forward.

Today, federal, state, local, and Pueblo law enforcement leaders came together in Española to deliver an important message to our community: Operation Tempest is making an impact, and the work is far from over.

U.S. Attorney Ryan Ellison, FBI Special Agent in Charge Justin Garris, Department of Public Safety Cabinet Secretary Jason Bowie, Española Police Chief Jack Jones, along with police chiefs from surrounding Pueblos and Santa Fe, joined forces for a press conference to update the public on Operation Tempest — a coordinated operation targeting Española’s top 10 offenders with the goal of apprehending them and pursuing federal charges.

The collaboration represents a powerful, united effort to address serious and repeat criminal activity in our community.

During the press conference, law enforcement leaders discussed the results and effectiveness of Operation Tempest in Española, the progress that has already been made, and plans to continue building on that success.

And the message was clear:
This operation is working.
Agencies are working together.
More progress is coming.

Española Mayor Dennis Tim Salazar and City Manager Michael Ortiz are encouraged by the progress being made and are excited to see this operation continue to move forward, bringing stronger partnerships, greater accountability, and increased safety to our community.

This is about protecting our residents, strengthening our community, and holding repeat offenders accountable.

Be sure to tune in to tonight’s local news for the full story, including specific details about Operation Tempest and the progress being made right here in Española.
