VFW Post 1513

VFW Post 1513 We are a group of combat veterans working together to help each other and the community.

The VFW traces its roots back to 1899 when veterans of the Spanish-American War (1898) and the Philippine Insurrection (1899-1902) founded local organizations to secure rights and benefits for their service: Many arrived home wounded or sick. There was no medical care or veterans' pension for them, and they were left to care for themselves. In their misery, some of these veterans banded together a

nd formed organizations with what would become known as the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States. After chapters were formed in Ohio, Colorado and Pennsylvania, the movement quickly gained momentum. By 1915, membership grew to 5,000; by 1936, membership was almost 200,000.

Happy Birthday to our small but mighty Auxiliary! Today is their 9th birthday. These powerhouses have held department and state Auxiliary positions, train dogs for veterans at no cost, hold leadership positions for non profits to help homeless veterans and more. Cheers to 9 years of serving Veterans, their families, and the community!

We hope you can join us!

Yesterday Post 1513 was busy holding 2 Veterans Day ceremonies in Escondido and Rancho Bernardo honoring the men and women who have selflessly served our county. Commander Cruz, President Plotkin and comrade Hanson lead these ceremonies with support of the 1513 membership. Thank you to our supporters, our communities and elected officials for coming out to show your appreciation to the brave men and women who answered the call to duty.

Post 1513 takes great pride in all that we do supporting our active duty military, Veterans, their families and our community. Over the past week we have had the honor and pleasure of serving along side amazing organizations such as Cookouts and Camaraderie the Oceanside Bombers and Feeding San Diego to help those in need during the troubles they are currently facing. We have also had the honor of attending the Marine Corps Ball for 1st DSB and CLB-5 in celebrating 250 years of Marine Corps history and tradition. Though our military careers have ended, our service to the people of this country has not.
