🤰🍼 Pregnant or breastfeeding? Lead exposure is something to be aware of.

Lead can pass through the placenta to a developing baby and can also pass through breast milk when a parent is exposed. If you are concerned about lead exposure from your home, drinking water, job, hobbies, or other sources, talk with your healthcare provider about whether a blood lead test is appropriate for you.

With back to school, it’s important for families and schools to stay informed about youth ni****ne use. Ni****ne pouches are the second most commonly used to***co product among U.S. middle and high school students, behind e-cigarettes (2025 National Youth To***co Survey).

Many schools have ni****ne-free and drug-free policies that may include ni****ne pouches and other ni****ne products. Talk with youth about ni****ne use and review your school’s policies and code of conduct together. Staying informed and having open conversations can help support healthy choices throughout the school year. 💙

Why is blood lead testing important?

Lead is an invisible threat that is found throughout our environment. A blood lead test can tell you if you or your loved ones have recent or ongoing exposures to lead. A blood lead test cannot tell you whether you or your loved ones had exposures in the past.

Blood lead testing is particularly important for young children and pregnant persons because exposure to lead early in life has been shown to negatively impact learning, behavior, hearing, and growth.

Lead exposure is preventable. The key is stopping children from coming into contact with lead. Learn more about lead and health: https://www.michigan.gov/mileadsafe/learn/lead-and-your-health
