On Tuesday, September 8th, join our SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) coalition in front of the Unicoi County Courthouse for a community su***de awareness project reminding everyone of one simple but powerful message:
YOU MATTER. 💜
We’ll be using sidewalk chalk to spread messages of hope, support, kindness, and encouragement throughout our community. 💙💜
Sometimes a small message can reach someone at exactly the moment they need it. A simple “You matter,” “Keep going,” or “It’s okay to ask for help” could make a BIG difference.

Recovery means something different to everyone. For some, it means taking the first step. For others, it means rebuilding relationships, finding purpose, learning to live one day at a time, or simply choosing not to give up.

💜 SEPTEMBER IS SU***DE PREVENTION MONTH 💜

As you travel through town this month, you may notice signs at the Unicoi County Courthouse and our Library reminding our community of one very important message:

YOU MATTER. 💜

The Unicoi County Courthouse will also be lit purple and teal throughout the month as a symbol of hope, awareness, remembrance, and our commitment to su***de prevention.

Su***de affects individuals, families, friends, coworkers, and entire communities. Talking about su***de does not create suicidal thoughts—it can open the door to help, hope, and connection.

Yesterday was filled with important conversations, meaningful connections, valuable resources, and most importantly, remembering the loved ones we have lost.
We want to say Thank You to everyone who came out, supported our community, shared their stories, offered encouragement, and helped make our IOAD event so meaningful.
A special THANK YOU to Chief Buchanan, Chief Hobson, Sheriff Rutherford, Fire Chief Jason Harris, EMS Dir. Rebecca Harrison, UC EMA Jimmy Erwin and our County Mayor Evely for signing our IOAD Proclamation and for standing with our community in brining awareness to overdose, supporting prevention, and remembering those we have lost.
We remember. We educate. We prevent. We support. We hope.

Today, we remember the lives lost to overdose and the families, friends, and communities left behind carrying that loss. Behind every statistic is a person. Someone's child. Someone's parent. Someone's sibling. Someone's best friend. Someone who was loved and whose life mattered. Today is not about judgement. It is about remembering, raising awareness, breaking the stigma, educating our communities, and saving lives. For those who have lost someone - we see you. We remember with you. Your loved one will never be just a number.

Friday was a day where Prevention meets Fun!
Sticker Shocked football concessions, partnered with football players and cheerleaders to hand out drug free pins to our 4 elementary schools, and SADD students spent the evening handing out swag and prevention materials at the UCPC table.

Today we had the opportunity to be at the Middle School for Anti-Bullying Day!
We talked about kindness, respect, standing up for others, and reminding students that their words and actions matter. Sometimes a simple act of kindness can make a bigger difference than we realize.
