Have you ever seen a freshwater mussel? These creatures live in many rivers and streams here in east Tennessee, including the Nolichucky. Some mussel species, such as the Pocketbook, will display a lure to attract fish. When the fish bites the lure the mussels will releases larvae onto the fishes gills, where they remain until they metamorphosize into juveniles and drop off into the substrate.
