Crews will begin fall fire hydrant maintenance this week to prepare the hydrants for the upcoming winter months. Please be patient as they work and remember to run cold water in sinks and tubs to keep dirty water out of the hot water heaters.

This 19 year old ex-cheerleader now an Air Force Security Forces Sniper, was watching a road in Pakistan that led to a NATO military base when she observed a man digging by the road. She engaged the target (she shot him).

It turned out he
was a bomb maker for the Taliban, and he was burying an IED that was to be detonated when a U.S. patrol walked by 30 minutes later. It would have certainly killed and wounded several soldiers.
The interesting fact of this story is the shot was measured at 725 yards. She shot him as he was bent over burying the bomb. The shot went through his re**um and into the bomb which detonated; he was blown to pieces. The Air Force made a motivational poster of her. (Folks, that's a shot 25 yards longer than seven football fields) and the last thing that came out of his mouth ... was his ass!

Modern homes and furniture burn much more quickly than those from at least two decades ago. Older styles of furniture, such as back in our grandparent’s day, was made out of more organic material and lacked that "gasoline on furniture" effect. The newer synthetic materials burn faster - and hotter- than ever. You may have less than 3 minutes to escape from the start of a fire in a modern home.

Install working smoke alarms on all levels of the home, including the basement, inside and outside every sleeping area.

Create and practice a fire escape plan that involves everyone living in the home.

Once outside the home, do not go back in.

Practice Close Before You Doze: Close bedroom doors before going to bed at night to help prevent the spread of smoke, heat and fire and to buy time to escape, or if escape is not possible, to allow the fire department more time to get to you. Also important to note: Close doors behind you as you escape.
