💙 Celebrating healthier lives and incredible outcomes!

We are so proud to have brought our Diabetes Prevention Program to Community Resources for Independence (CRI) through our partnership with Special Olympics International and Lakeshore Foundation.

This program is about so much more than preventing diabetes. It’s about building healthier habits, increasing physical activity, making nutritious choices, setting goals, building confidence, and creating a supportive community. 🌟

Seeing the positive changes and amazing health outcomes among participants has been incredibly rewarding. Every healthy choice, every goal reached, and every step forward is something to celebrate! 💪❤️

We are grateful to CRI for welcoming us and, most importantly, to all of the participants who showed up, committed to their health, and inspired us along the way.

Did you know that understanding the signs of vision changes can help individuals seek care sooner and maintain their independence longer?

The Sight Center recently had the opportunity to provide eye health education to more than 80 participants at the GECAC Erie West Senior Center. We are grateful for every chance to connect with our community, share valuable information, and empower individuals to take charge of their eye health.

Together, we're building a more informed, healthier community. 💙

The Wednesday Club was pleased to welcome Karen Cummings-Wedding of Resilient Clinical Counseling as our featured presenter.
Karen began her therapeutic career specializing in blindness and vision loss after recognizing, through her own personal experiences, a significant gap in services and support for individuals facing these challenges.

A native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Karen shared that her vision journey began at just two days old when she underwent emergency cataract removal surgery and was diagnosed with glaucoma. Throughout her life, she has experienced both remarkable successes and significant setbacks. Knowing that she must always be prepared for the possibility of total vision loss, Karen has developed a deep commitment to resilience and maintaining a positive outlook.

Her passion for helping others inspires individuals to believe that anything is possible when overcoming adversity, leading to a fulfilling and meaningful life.

During her presentation, Karen discussed topics including Worden's Stages of Loss, cognitive reframing, and the importance of finding safe and supportive people who see you for who you are, rather than focusing on your visual impairment.

Drawing from her personal experiences, professional expertise, and educational background, Karen delivered an authentic and impactful presentation. Her honest advice, thoughtful insights, and inspiring perspective resonated deeply with attendees, leaving us with a greater understanding of resilience, self-acceptance, and the power of human connection.

Healthy Aging Month Challenge: Week 1 🚶‍♀️

Healthy aging doesn't have to mean major lifestyle changes. Small steps can lead to lasting benefits!

This week, focus on adding 10 minutes of movement to your day. Take a walk around the neighborhood, stretch while watching TV, or try a few chair exercises. Regular movement can help improve balance, strength, and energy levels as we age.

✅ Your challenge: Move for 10 extra minutes each day this week.

What's your favorite way to stay active?

🌟 Healthy Aging Month is Here! 🌟

September is Healthy Aging Month, a time to celebrate the power of healthy habits, lifelong wellness, and positive aging.

At The Sight Center, we believe it's never too late to make choices that support your health, independence, and quality of life. Throughout the month, we'll be sharing simple, practical tips you can try at home to help you age well, one small step at a time.

We'll cover:
✅ Staying active
✅ Eating well
✅ Building social connections
✅ Keeping your mind engaged
✅ Creating healthy habits that last

You don't need a complete lifestyle overhaul to make a difference. Small changes can add up to big benefits over time. (Sounds like the foundation of our Diabetes Prevention Program, another great option to create healthier habits and better long-term health for those at-risk for type 2 diabetes).

Follow along all month and join us as we take simple steps toward healthier aging together!
