West Lake Fire Department is located in Millcreek Township, Erie County, Pennsylvania. West Lake is one of four (4) volunteer fire departments that serve the township, specializing in Fire Suppress

ion, Emergency Medical Services, Vehicle Rescue, Water Rescue (Open Water/Swift Water, Ice Rescue), Specialized Rescue (Trench Rescue, Confined Space), Hazmat, Fire Prevention and Public Relations. West Lake operates out of two (2) fire stations strategically placed in the coverage area, Station 48 located in the north part of our area and Station 49 located in the northeastern side of the territory. Station 48 houses three (3) pieces of apparatus and Station 49 houses three (3) pieces of apparatus. West Lake operates: 1 Rescue, 1 Ladder Truck, 1 Utility Truck, and 3 Rescue Boats. Department 48 is an all volunteer fire department.

STATIONS:

Station 48 - Formerly known as "West Lake 1" it is located at the intersection of West Lake Road and Powell Avenue. Station 48 houses five (5) pieces of apparatus - Engine 482, Engine 483, Ladder 489, Truck 487 and Sea Legs Rescue Boat. With a Chief's office, Bunk Room, Lounge, Computer Room, Quartermaster Room, Board Room, Kitchen, Treasures' Office, Maintenance Room, Truck Bay and Bathrooms all apart of the station. There is also a detached garage that stores the Jet Skis, extra equipment, lawn supplies, etc. Station 49 - Formerly known as "West Lake 2" is located at 2942 West 12th Street. Station 49 houses two (2) pieces of apparatus - Rescue 485, Zodiac Rescue Boat. Station 49 houses our water rescue team's equipment. Equipped with a computer room/common area, lounge, bathroom and a second story for storage

JUNIOR FIREFIGHTERS:

West Lake is home to one of the finest Junior Firefighter programs in the area. Currently WLFD has two (2) junior firefighters, and had 13 when the program was brought back in 2005. Based on Junior programs from the southern part of the country, youth in the community ages 16 years old to 18 years old are encouraged to join the Junior Firefighter Program. In this program, Junior Firefighters are issued all turnout gear that senior members are issued. The Jr’s have certain restrictions for calls they are allowed to go on and certain training's that they can be apart of. The Jr’s are encouraged to take “Essentials of Firefighting”, “EMT" {at age 16}, and all other classes that Jr’s can participate in under the PA Child Labor Laws. More Information can be obtained through our official website listed on the main page. All four junior firefighters are very active in the department.

MUTUAL AID:

West Lake Fire Department runs mutual aid with several fire department in Millcreek and the surrounding townships. Department 48 runs mutual aid with the following departments: Millcreek Paramedic Service (93), West Ridge Fire Department (46), Lake Shore Fire Department (50), Kearsarge Fire Department (44), City of Erie Fire Department (32), Fairview Fire Department (52), Perry-Hi Way Hose Company (42), McKean Hose Company (40), Erie International Airport Fire Department (80), United States Coast Guard, Millcreek Police Department and Presque Isle Ranger/Lifeguards.

MILLCREEK PARAMEDIC SERVICE:

Millcreek Paramedic Service is the primary ambulance company in Millcreek Township. With the four fire departments in Millcreek along with Lake Shore Fire Department as owners of the ambulance service. Anytime you call 9-1-1 in Millcreek for an ambulance, the Fire Department in that area will first respond. The reason for this is to try to provide Basic Life Support prior to the Advanced Life Support (MPS) arriving on location. MPS currently had seven (9) ambulances and two (1) fly cars.

HEALTH AND WELFARE:

West Lake Fire Department has set up a fitness program to encourage the members to stay fit. All of this goes hand and hand with "Everyone Goes Home" program from the State Fire Academy. West Lake currently offers reimbursement to members who reach a set number of times visited the gym per month. This is a great way to keep members active and in shape.

LADIES AUXILIARY:

West Lake Fire Department has a group of dedicated members that form the Ladies Auxiliary. The ladies provide dinner for the members on meeting nights (1st Wednesday of each month). They hold a card party every month and respond on major incidents where members will need food and beverages. Thank you to all the ladies for the continued support and great work!

SATURDAY AFTERNOON...

* WHAT...High risk of rip currents expected.

* WHERE...
Pennsylvania, Northern Erie County.

* WHEN...From late tonight through Saturday afternoon.

* IMPACTS...Wind and wave action will cause currents on the
lakeshore. Swimmers should not enter the water. Currents can
carry swimmers away from shore through a sand bar and along
structures extending out into the lake.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Remain out of the water to avoid hazardous swimming conditions.
