🚨🔥 Fulton County Emergency Management – NYS BURN BAN is still in effect🔥🚨
A Red Flag Warning / Special Weather Statements have been issued for areas surrounding Fulton County. While we may not currently be included, that does NOT mean we are in the clear — conditions are still dry, and the risk for fire spread remains elevated.
🚫 Reminder: The NYS Burn Ban is STILL IN EFFECT
Please follow all regulations set by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.
⸻
🚩 What is a Red Flag Warning?
A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will shortly. This typically includes:
• Low humidity
• Gusty winds
• Dry fuels (grass, brush, leaves)
These conditions allow fires to start easily and spread rapidly.
⸻
⚠️ Why This Matters
Wildfires—especially grass and brush fires—can:
• 🌲 Destroy natural habitats and forests
• 🏠 Threaten homes, vehicles, and infrastructure
• 🚒 Put firefighters at serious risk due to unpredictable fire behavior
Even a small spark can quickly turn into a fast-moving fire under these conditions.
⸻
🔥 Burning Regulations & Responsibility
🚫 Do NOT conduct open burning unless it fully complies with NYS DEC regulations.
⚠️ Even if your fire does meet the rules, use extreme caution — conditions are not favorable.
⸻
🏕️ Campfire Safety Tips
If campfires are permitted where you are:
• Keep fires small and manageable
• Clear a 10-foot area around the fire pit
• Never leave a fire unattended
• Keep water, a hose, or a shovel nearby
• Fully extinguish fires (drown, stir, and feel for heat)
• Avoid burning on windy days
⸻
💬 Bottom Line:
Just because Fulton County isn’t highlighted doesn’t mean we’re “out of the woods.” Stay alert, follow the burn ban, and help protect our community and our firefighters.
Stay safe,
