Strong winds today! Please use caution with anything that can start a fire.

There will be widespread wind gusts around 30-50 mph across the Inland Northwest Tuesday Afternoon. These winds will create difficult driving conditions for high-profile vehicles and cause choppy waters on regional lakes. Isolated tree damage is also possible, particularly around the Wenatchee area and Waterville Plateau. Secure loose outdoor items and trash cans before Tuesday morning.

🔥🚫BURN BAN STARTS TOMORROW 🚫🔥: The annual burn ban starts June 1st and lasts until September 30th. Here’s what it means for you:

- The burning of household garbage, building materials (processed lumber) is never allowed by Washington State law at any time.

- Burn barrels are still illegal.

YOU ARE OK TO DO THE FOLLOWING WHILE THE BAN IS IN PLACE
- Agricultural field burning or orchard burning is allowed when properly permitted by the Washington State Department of Ecology and precautions have been made for fire suppression if needed.

- Recreational fires/camp fires are allowed in approved devices at public campgrounds when allowed by the campground authority. Recreational fires are allowed in private pits at residences when surrounded by twenty-five feet of non-combustible space around the fire pit, a charged water line is present and the fire is attended at all times.

- Cooking fires are allowed for large events whether public or private and must be permitted through the Fire Marshal's office prior to the event.

Wild weather last night kept emergency services busy throughout the county. At about 8:55 PM we responded to a reported structure fire that turned out to be multiple diesel tanks totaling 15,000 gallons and a shop on fire in the 6500 block of RD B NW. Upon arrival firefighters observed one tank had failed.

Poor visibility and downed trees hampered access to the fire. District 5 & District 13 Five-Ton Tenders were able to reach the fire and protect a home and larger shop threatened by the blaze while firefighters cleared the down trees to make access.

Meanwhile additional calls in the district came in for electrical hazards from downed power lines. Additional D13 firefighters with assistance from EFD handled those calls.

In all it took about 22,000 gallons of water and 350 gallons of foam to extinguish the diesel tank fire. A connected shop next to the tank was destroyed, but a larger shop and home were protected by firefighters. Initial indications are a downed poplar tree struck the tank and a fire ignited. Units cleared the scene about 3:15AM.

In any major weather event resources get spread thin. Teamwork and mutual aid is a must and we are thankful for the help from Grant County Fire District #5, Your Ephrata Firefighters and farmers with equipment who assisted with making access.
