Here you can get updates on the garden and any activities going on. The garden is located at the USU SAGE Center on the north end of town. The garden is for everyone; to provide space for anyone in our community for growing their own food, to teach effective gardening techniques, to educate people on healthful eating and good nutrition, to save us money on groceries, to preserve local and heirloom
varieties of plants, and to encourage self reliance and independence in the community at large. Gardens teach children accountability, consistency and responsibility. Children are also more likely to eat vegetables and fruits if they help to raise them, which in turn improves their health, and thus their well-being, and performance in school. We encourage people who participate to "grow a row" to donate to the food bank and families in need. YOU are critical to making the garden a success. Tell people you know about the garden! Here are ways you can participate:
RENT A PLOT: Each plot is 4x12 and can be rented for $20 for the season. Thanks to funding from Ephraim City we also have a limited number of plots available, free of charge, for families and individuals who qualify. The plot includes water, seeds, seedling starts (while they are available), and access to garden tools. WORK IN THE PUBLIC GARDEN: You can work in the public area of the garden at your convenience and accumulate credits for fresh produce as it becomes available. BUY GOODS FROM THE GARDEN: Support the community garden, and local private gardens, by buying veggies and locally made goods at the farmer's market, or at the Bishop's Storehouse as veggies are harvested. We'll have a sign out in front advertising what's been harvested, and we'll post on Facebook. DONATE: We're grateful for and always in need of volunteers who can give time to the garden. If you don't have time then you can opt to donate cash or materials. Mountain America Credit Union has an account for the garden. We can always use tools, soil, hoses, canning jars, local and heirloom seeds, etc. Please contact us if you need an updated list. Visit any time!
