The City of Enterprise recognized September as Su***de Prevention Month during Tuesday’s City Council meeting, with Mayor William E. Cooper Sr. emphasizing the importance of connection, compassion and reminding those who may be struggling that they are not alone.
“Every life has value, and no one should feel like they have to face a difficult time alone,” Mayor Cooper said. “Sometimes, simply taking the time to notice someone, reach out and let them know they are not alone can make a difference.”
Joining Mayor Cooper and Director of Tourism and Community Relations Tammy Doerer for the recognition were Kristin Johns with SpectraCare Health Systems; Vernon Johnson, Fort Rucker Su***de Prevention Program Coordinator; Brent Hawken, Fort Rucker Substance Misuse Prevention Coordinator; and Jessica Hawken with Warrior Wellness Collective.
Mayor Cooper formally proclaimed September 2026 as Su***de Prevention Month in the City of Enterprise.
The proclamation recognizes su***de as a serious public health concern affecting individuals, families, schools, workplaces and communities, while emphasizing the value of every life and the importance of reducing stigma and encouraging conversations about mental health and emotional well-being.
It also recognizes the role families, friends, educators, healthcare professionals, first responders, faith communities, veterans' organizations, civic groups and other community members play in supporting those who may be experiencing emotional distress.
Through the proclamation, the City of Enterprise encourages citizens to look out for one another, speak openly and compassionately about mental health, seek help when needed and remind those who are struggling that hope and help are available.
“Su***de Prevention Month is an opportunity for our community to stand together and remind one another that help is available and that no one has to face life's most difficult moments alone,” Cooper said.
The City of Enterprise encourages residents to check on friends, family members, neighbors and coworkers and to take concerns seriously when someone may be struggling.
