On Monday, May 25, at approximately 7:30 p.m., the Wallowa County Sheriff’s Office 911 Center received a report that two young males, ages 17 and 19, were possibly lost on the Snake River near Dug Bar.

The Sheriff’s Office coordinated with the U.S. Forest Service, and personnel met at Heller Bar to launch a river search.

Approximately 15 miles upriver from Heller Bar, the Forest Service boat encountered another boat traveling downstream. The occupants were relatives of the two young men and advised that they had located them and that both individuals were safe.

This incident is another example of the importance of coordination between law enforcement and partner agencies to help ensure public safety, even in the most remote areas.
