A story every woman should read 👇

Toward the end of her second pregnancy, Jocelyn noticed something wasn’t right.

A skin irritation on her right breast wouldn’t heal. She was reassured it was likely hormonal, and a mammogram came back clean.

But it kept coming back.

And Jocelyn couldn’t shake the feeling that something was wrong.

“I began my quest to find a breast specialist,” she recalls, “and I was really disappointed to see that so many local facilities would not take me as a patient.”

Because her imaging looked normal, Jocelyn was told additional testing wasn’t necessary. But she kept asking questions.

Eventually, her search brought her to Englewood Health, where she found a team that finally listened.

The diagnosis was Paget’s disease of the breast — a rare form of breast cancer that can cause skin changes that resemble more common conditions.

Within minutes of her diagnosis, Jocelyn was talking with her care team about a plan.

Then came another shock.

Additional imaging revealed a second, invasive cancer in her other breast.

Jocelyn underwent a double mastectomy, followed by radiation.

Through it all, she says she felt carried by the people around her.

“I felt like I was in a relay, just passing the baton to the next amazing team member at Englewood Health,” she says. “Every person — from the valet to the receptionist, to the women at the mammography table — every single person in this hospital is happy and kind.”

At home, her husband supported Jocelyn and their two young daughters through some of the hardest weeks of her recovery.

Now, months after her diagnosis, Jocelyn is sharing her story because she wants other women to know: breast cancer doesn’t always begin with a lump.

And when something about your body doesn’t feel right, keep asking questions.

“You are your own best advocate. You know your body best. It is not okay to be dismissed — you need to find a place that will listen to you and treat you with the dignity you deserve.”
