Love nature, learning, teaching, hiking? Want to share your time, knowledge and skills for a great cause? Join us at our Trail Guide / Docent information session on Wednesday, September 9th at 10:00 am to find out how to become part of our volunteer team! Whether you would like to lead guided hikes around the preserve for students or adults, or would like to be an information ambassador answering questions about the land and wildlife of Flat Rock Brook, you have a role to play in our educational and environmental mission. Fun fact: Some of our employees, board members and even a few Presidents have started as volunteers at Flat Rock! The place just grows on you!

Our Full Moon hike scheduled for tomorrow Thursday, August 27th has been canceled due to the threat of extreme weather. Sorry for the late notice. We were hoping the weather would turn. Refunds will be issued for those who ordered their tickets on line. Stay tuned for the next scheduled night hike.

Our sweet Tilly is molting. That did not stop the kids (and adults) from IndigoKid at the Montessori School in Fair Lawn from falling in love with her! Screech Owl Tilly, Red-tailed Hawk Jones and humans Laura and Rosetta visited yesterday on the last day of their summer program.

We will include pictures of all our rescue raptors (and Rosetta!) when they visit the Vet for their wellness check this week!

Wrapping up Wacky Weather Week at Flat Rock Brook Nature Camp this week. Cloud craft, making rainbows using capillary action and hikes through the forest when the rain let up - including some fun at “Sliding Rock.” Check out our Naturalist Ella leasing the kids in a “make sounds like the weather” interactive movement exercise!
