Meet the GCMPC Community Development Team!
The Community Development team manages grants provided to the County by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). These include the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), Home Improvement Program (HIP), Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG), International Development Association (IDA) and the Home Investment Partnerships (HOME) program. The primary goal for these grants is to fund community improvement projects for low to moderate income residents and communities. GCMPC partners with local units of government and community-based organizations to fund public facility improvements, infrastructure improvements, home repairs, public services, and other projects in Genesee County.

Today, my colleagues and I on the House Appropriations Committee were briefed on how International Development Association (IDA) funds have been used to rebuild communities after three hurricanes recently hit the U.S. and its territories.

We were briefed on the housing and public infrastructure needs of States and U.S. territories recovering from Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria. In addition, we discussed preventative measures, such as updating building codes, with the hope that disaster prone areas will be better prepared for future storms. I look forward to working hard to ensure that programs like IDA-Disaster Recovery are adequately funded to help Americans recover from these catastrophic disasters now and in the future.

As the Vice Chairman of the House Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development Appropriations Subcommittee, the International Development Association (IDA) Grant Disaster Recovery Program is funded via my subcommittee.

On the 22 April afternoon we celebrated the new Kirk Park playground with a ribbon cutting ceremony! Please join us in thanking the Sarasota Office of Housing and Community Development, who fully funded this project with International Development Association Grant (IDA) funds in the amount of $225,000. 🙌
