We’ve had a tragedy in Columbia tonight.

This brave warrior, 25 year old James Muller of the Irmo Fire Department… lost his life… running to save others in a massive fire at an apartment complex in Columbia.

He was a husband, and a father.

The flames engulfed the building, and the structure collapsed, trapping firefighters inside. 6 other firefighters were transported to the hospital.

Sending heartfelt condolences and prayers to his family- and all of the brave men and women of the Irmo, Columbia and Cayce fire departments.

It’s a reminder to never take for granted the service and sacrifice of our first responders.

Rest In Peace, F.F Muller. ♥️ WIS TV

Spring is well…..Springing. The peeper frogs are singing, flowers are starting to pop up, and we are all emerging from our New England hibernation. As we rediscover our backyards remember to follow a few common sense rules when having a backyard campfire. 1. Check that the Fire Danger is low and air quality is good ( Ct. DEEP website ) 2. Make sure you burn only clean untreated fire wood. 3. Keep any campfire away from structures. 4. Have a means of extinguishing the fire close at hand. 5. Keep the fire small, we suggest a diameter of 3 feet or less. 6. If possible use a manufactured fire ring. 7. If you have any questions please consult your local Fire station.

On today's International Day of Forests 🌲🌳🏕️, I'm asking my friends across the country to help me "keep the peace" in our nation's beautiful forests by being careful and practicing fire safety at all times. Let's make sure our trees are still there for future generations of outdoor enthusiasts to enjoy. 🏞️

As the weather continues to turn much colder in our community and the threat of additional snow looms, remember the resources available to keep our most vulnerable neighbors safe.
If you are unable to get to a loved one or neighbor to check on, you may call 860-763-6400 to request a welfare check.
Remember "See Something, Say Something" does not just apply to suspicious activity.

January 20th, 2021 -Thompsonville Fire Department is one of only 200 chosen among the Nation's Fire Departments to participate in a Community Risk Reduction Pilot Program.

“Access to accurate data will allow CRR leaders to use insights and make informed decisions about where to focus efforts and resources,” said Karen Berard-Reed, community risk reduction strategist at NFPA. “While many fire departments have struggled to work with data sets, NFPA’s CRA tool will do the complex work behind the scenes to compile relevant data allowing stakeholders to create effective community risk reduction plans that incorporate five priorities - education, engineering, enforcement, economic incentives, and emergency response - in the most impactful ways possible.”

“We are thrilled to be participating in this important project,” said Captain Scott Ellis, Fire Marshal of the Thompsonville Fire Department. “Not only will access to the tool give us invaluable information about our community’s needs, but it’s rewarding to know that using the tool will increase its effectiveness and help other fire departments in the long run.”
