***UPDATE***

EPD has lifted the shelter in place, the scene has been secured and determined to be safe. We thank everyone for their cooperation and patience.

************************************************
The Enfield Police Department is on scene with the Connecticut State Police’s Bomb Squad and are advising that the shelter in place is only applicable within 500ft from 4 Lake Dr.

************************************************

Earlier be today department personnel received a complaint involving a male subject who had threatened to violence toward workers at the new Amazon facility jobsite. Officers went to the residence to attempt to interview the male suspect at 4 Lake Drive, his home. The subject was initially unwilling to speak to officers but eventually agreed to allow officers a limited entry into his home solely for the purpose of our taking possession of fi****ms inside the home while this investigation continued. When inside officers observed what appeared to be at least one WWII-era mortar round inside the home.

At this time, the house has been vacated and a perimeter established around the home. Residents in the immediate area may shelter in place or leave the area. There is no immediate reason to expect that this munition will become active or detonate at this point.

Department personnel anticipate applying for a search warrant for this location and then utilizing bomb squad personnel to render this item and this location safe. This process is anticipated to take the next several hours.

On May 31, 2026 at approximately 8am, EPD officers received a call for a larceny of bottles and cans directly from a Connecticut Children’s Hospital “Cans For Kids” donation bin located at 105 Raffia Road. By utilizing local surveillance cameras and municipal license plate readers, a vehicle and suspect were soon identified. As a result of the investigation, Joshua Wilcox of Broad Brook, Connecticut was located and detained in Wethersfield, Connecticut. Wilcox was arrested by EPD and charged with Connecticut General Statute 53a-125b: Larceny in the sixth degree and Connecticut General Statute 53a-107: Criminal trespass in the first degree. It shall be noted that this was the second incident involving Wilcox at the same location.

A special thank you to the Wethersfield Police Department for assisting in locating and detaining Wilcox.
