Thompsonville Fire Department District #2

Thompsonville Fire Department District #2 Est. 1839
First organized paid Fire Department in the State of Connecticut

The Thompsonville Fire District #2 has been providing fire protection for the Thompsonville District within the Town of Enfield since 1839. We are one of five fire tax districts in Enfield and are separate from the town municipality. We are a small career department which was the first organized career department in the State of Connecticut. We employ a Fire Chief, a Fire Marshal, a Training Offic

er, and 16 Firefighter/EMT's that work on four different groups providing 24hr coverage to provide the highest possible level of fire protection, emergency medical service, rescue, water rescue, and hazardous materials response for the district's residents and businesses. The Thompsonville Fire District #2 proudly provides its services to the approximately 9,000 residents and visitors of Thompsonville, as well as the rest of town via mutual aid agreements with Enfield, Hazardville, North Thompsonville, and Shaker Pines Fire Districts. We are all certified EMT’s and respond supplemental first response to all priority medical calls with Enfield EMS within the Thompsonville District. The on-duty shift consists of a Captain and 3 Firefighter/EMT's that all respond and operate on Squad 21. Squad 21 is a combination engine and rescue truck that can provide equipment for any type of emergency. We also operate an engine (Engine 21), a 75’ ladder (Ladder 21), and a boat (Marine 21) These additional pieces of apparatus and equipment are usually operated by off duty Firefighter/EMT's that are called back in to work in the event of multiple emergency calls or even a large type of emergency. This afternoon at approximately 3 o’clock Thompsonville Firefighters of B group, along with Hazardville fire, North Thompsonville Fire, Enfield Fire, and Shaker Pines Fire responded to a reported structure at 1015 Enfield Street in the Thompsonville Fire District. Upon arrival crews encountered heavy fire from the front of the building. Crews made quick work of the fire. Heavy overhaul assured that any pockets of fire were fully extinguished. Last night at 22:32 (10:32 pm) TFD was dispatched to a possible structure fire. On arrival C Group found a fire outside of the residence with the beginning phases of extension to the house and nearby fence. Quick work kept the damage to the structure at a minimum. Per protocol members of the other 4 fire districts also responded. Initially this call had been received by via phone at North Thompsonville fire, TFD would like to remind everyone that if you have an emergency please call 911. Had someone not been in the station at NTFD this could have been a totally different outcome.

12:01 pm TFD C group along with NTFD responded to a multi car accident on I-91 south bound between exits 49 and 48. While working on scene, another minor car accident occurred right next to Squad 21 when one motor vehicle failed to pay attention to the warning signals and cone pattern signaling a lane closure and to merge to the left. This near miss of the fire apparatus happens all too often on the highway. This is why multiple apparatus respond to highway insidents. While to the general public it may seem excessive, it’s for the protection of the fire department, state and local PD, EMS, tow truck company members and the parties involved in the accent we have responded too.

Last night at the Connecticut Fire Department Instructors Association (CFDIA) awards banquet, TFD’s very own Firefighter Eric Fischl was awarded the CFDIA Presidents award and a citation from the state of Connecticut for being a key part in getting the Windsor fire education program up and running and being on technical advisory boards for continuing education and training in the fire service. Eric is a valuable asset to TFD with his instructor knowledge and constant passion for the job. Congratulations Eric for a job well done!
