YOU are a first responder. YOU have the power to save a life. Be ready to act in a cardiac emergency. Hands-Only CPR has two simple steps: Call 911, then push hard and fast in the center of the chest until help arrives.

🚨SCAM ALERT: The Endicott Police Department is warning of an increase in scams targeting older adults, by falsely claiming there are problems with their bank accounts.

Scammers may call, text, email, or send pop-up messages on computers, while pretending to be a bank or financial institution. They often create a sense of urgency, and pressure them to act immediately by providing personal information or moving money.

⚠️ Important reminders:

• Banks will never ask for your PIN, password, or one-time verification codes
• Do not send money, gift cards, or transfer funds at someone else’s request
• Scammers may already have access to your account and know exactly how much money is in it
• Hang up and contact your bank directly, using the phone number on your bank card or statement
• Talk with a trusted friend or family member before taking action

If you or a loved one receive a suspicious call or message, do not engage. Report it immediately to your bank and local law enforcement 🚩Stay vigilant!

With the holidays behind us and a new year in front of us, many of us have experienced tremendous loss.

Your grief is your own. There are no rules to grieving. There is no roadmap and no set exit off the grief highway. Grief doesn’t run on a schedule, and that’s okay.

Take care of yourself. Let yourself feel. Let yourself grieve. Healing doesn’t mean forgetting; it means learning how to carry love and loss together.

Here are a few of my favorite quotes that have helped me through my own seasons of grief:

“Never. We never lose our loved ones. They accompany us; they don’t disappear from our lives. We are merely in different rooms.”
— Paulo Coelho

“Deep grief sometimes is almost like a specific location, a coordinate on a map of time. When you are standing in that forest of sorrow, you cannot imagine that you could ever find your way to a better place. But if someone can assure you that they themselves have stood in that same place, and now have moved on, sometimes this will bring hope.” — Elizabeth Gilbert

“You will lose someone you can’t live without, and your heart will be badly broken. And the bad news is that you never completely get over the loss of your beloved. But this is also the good news. They live forever in your broken heart that doesn’t seal back up. And you come through. It’s like having a broken leg that never heals perfectly—that still hurts when the weather gets cold, but you learn to dance with the limp.” — Anne Lamott

Take care of yourself,
Amy Polhamus, Deputy Director of Community Outreach
