Over the next several shifts, on-duty crews will be working through annual hose testing.

Each platoon will test and inspect over 15,000 feet of hose carried on our apparatus and in house. Every length gets pulled, pressure tested, inspected, drained and put back in service.

It’s a big job, but an important one. We need to know our hose is ready to go when we need it.

Just another part of keeping our equipment maintained and our crews ready.

10:10 am UPDATE: Gas emergency has been mitigated. NYSEG will be on scene working on repairing the line and roadway. Still expect delays.

Endicott Fire is currently operating at a ruptured gas line in the area of Watson and Oak Hill.

Please avoid the area and use an alternate route while emergency crews work to secure the scene.

BACK TO SCHOOL SAFETY REMINDER

As the start of the school year approaches, please be mindful of the pedestrian crosswalk in front of the Union-Endicott Central School District High School. Shout out to Endicott Police Department for taking the time to inform drivers on how the signs work.

🚦 How It Works for Drivers:

Dark: The lights remain dark when no one is requesting to cross, and traffic may continue normally.

Flashing Yellow: A pedestrian pushes the button, and the lights begin flashing yellow. Slow down and prepare to stop.

Solid Yellow: The light turns solid yellow, warning drivers to stop.

Solid Red: The light turns solid red. Drivers must come to a complete stop.

Flashing Red: The light flashes red. Drivers must stop, but may proceed only when the crosswalk is completely clear.

~~ Please remember: Pedestrians may be students, parents, staff, or community members. Give them the time and space they need to safely cross. ~~

Slow down. Stay alert. Stop for pedestrians.

Road construction is currently ongoing along Main Street, resulting in lane closures and traffic delays.

Please allow extra travel time and plan for delays during your commute.

Use caution when traveling through the work zone, reduce your speed, and remain alert for construction crews and changing traffic patterns.

Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians will be on site from 5:30–7:30 PM to check installation, harness fit, recalls, and overall car seat safety.

Not every call is an emergency.

Endicott Fire responds to thousands of calls for service every year — and they don’t all involve fires, medical emergencies, or vehicle accidents.

Our crews assist the community in many different ways, including fire inspections, smoke and CO detector issues, code violations, public service details, school and station tours… and yes, even the occasional cat rescues.

Recently, crews were called to assist a cat that had fallen more than 10 feet into a stairwell void and was unable to get out. Firefighters were able to safely access the confined area and rescue the cat, returning it safely to its owner.

It’s all part of the job — serving our community, no matter how big or small the call may be.

Endicott Firefighters responded to a working stove fire in a multi-family residence. Crews arrived quickly and knocked the fire down before it could take control of the building.

The fire was rapidly developing, and another couple of minutes could have meant a fully involved kitchen and more. The quick, professional response of our crews stopped it before it got there.

Working smoke detectors alerted residents of the fire and they evacuated safely before our arrival. They also did something incredibly important — they closed the apartment door behind them. That closed door helped hold the fire and smoke in check and bought firefighters valuable time.

The second-floor apartments were unoccupied, but crews still searched, checked for extension, and ventilated the upper floor.

The fire appears to have been accidental, with the believed cause being a pet that inadvertently turned on a stove burner.

Nobody expects a fire in their home. When it happens, there is no extra time.

Get out. Close the door. Call 911.

The actions of the residents, working smoke detectors and a fast fire department response made the difference between a kitchen fire and a catastrophic loss.
