It’s a Modular Monday! And yes, we just made that up.

Two weeks ago we were thrilled to join Habitat for Humanity of Schenectady County for a modular home set—the day when factory-built home sections are delivered, craned into place, and permanently secured to each other and a foundation. Unlike manufactured or “HUD-Code” homes, modular homes are built to the same state and local building standards as all traditional new homes—and to be a Habitat home, they’re built to even higher standards! Being constructed in a factory just means better efficiencies, less weather damage, more reliable schedules… and a truly transformational day like this!

This style of home is a cape, or “story-and-a-half” design, meaning that the second floor will include some finished living space as well as unfinished attic space. For Habitat Schenectady, this means that the first-floor bedrooms, kitchen, bathroom, living, and dining spaces are almost completely finished—but the upstairs level is just open framing at delivery, as you can see! This leaves tons of meaningful, educational, safe and FUN work for volunteers and future homeowners to complete, turning that unfinished upstairs into another bedroom, bathroom, and open living space.

Stay tuned for another update showcasing these beautiful interiors!

Big news on housing policy: The 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act is now law!

This is the most significant piece of bipartisan federal housing legislation in more than a decade. It happened because of years of advocacy from you, the Habitat community!

Thank you for standing up to tell Congress what matters most: safe, decent, affordable housing in every community.

This law will protect critical funding that boosts housing supply; it will streamline environmental reviews and reduce regulatory barriers; it will modernize existing federal housing programs; and it will increase transparency and strengthen coordination across the housing system.

And that helps us to build more safe, decent and long-term affordable homes for neighbors and communities across New York State!

This isn't the end of the work. It's proof that the work matters.

Thank you to all the legislators and staff who make affordable homeownership a priority in New York state, and thank you for showing your support at the 2026 ! The day may be over but the work goes on!

Still hard at work.

Over 100 volunteers have joined Habitat affiliates from across NY State for Capitol Build Day. We’re building a house at the State Capitol to show our legislators how much we need their support to keep building.
