Bureau of Reclamation has issued new guidelines for how much water each state can take from the Colorado River beginning October 1. The Colorado River provides water for more than 40 million people and is in jeopardy due to decades of overuse. The Lower Basin states, including California, have volunteered to reduce their take from the river by over a trillion gallons over the next two years. The San Diego region has spent decades diversifying its water supplies, which will spare us from major impacts for now. Learn more about the new rules at www.usbr.gov/newsroom/news-release/5392.

? These metal caps you see in the road cover more than 9,500 underground valves within the OMWD service area. The valves give us the ability start and stop the flow of water within different parts of the distribution system. Operators use a hydraulic valve-turning tool mounted to a truck to provide more power to help turn stubborn valves. Turning the valves regularly ensures they function as intended and will be effective in isolating leaks during an emergency.
