Community Resource Center

Community Resource Center CRC is a 501(c)(3) helping people create paths to healthy food, stable homes and safe relationships

After seeing so many in need, local community, faith-based and business leaders collaborated to form an organization to address homelessness and food insecurity among low-income community members. Since 1979, Community Resource Center has grown from providing basic needs for families in crisis, to offering a comprehensive continuum of safety net services - emergency assistance, case management, co

unseling, shelter and food - to low-income individuals and families who are experiencing homelessness or at imminent risk of homelessness, including domestic violence survivors and their children.

⚠️ CalFresh work requirement changes begin Monday, June 1.

Starting June 1, 2026, some CalFresh recipients may need to work, volunteer, attend school or participate in a qualifying training program to keep receiving benefits. These are called CalFresh work and community engagement requirements, also known as the Able-Bodied Adults Without Dependents, or ABAWD, rule.

These changes may newly affect some people who were previously excused, including:
• Adults ages 55–64, as the age range expands from 18–54 to 18–64
• Parents or caregivers whose youngest child is 14 or older
• People experiencing homelessness
• Veterans
• Young adults under 24 who aged out of foster care at 18

What to do now:
✅ Update your contact information at BenefitsCal.com
✅ Watch for County notices
✅ Use the CalFresh pre-screening tool to see what may apply to you: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/CalFreshWork
The pre-screening tool is not an official eligibility decision, but it can help you prepare before speaking with the County.

For help with CalFresh, visit BenefitsCal.com, contact San Diego County or call the CalFresh Benefits Helpline at 1-877-847-3663. BenefitsCal

📢 On Monday, big changes are coming to CalFresh when new federal rules add work and community engagement standards for many CalFresh recipients.

These requirements generally apply to adults aged 18–64 who are physically and mentally able to work and do not live with a child under 14. This group is known as Able-Bodied Adults Without Dependents (ABAWDs).

Automatic exemptions are removed for several categories, including:
• Adults aged 55–64
• Veterans
• Former foster youth
• Parents whose youngest child is 14 or older

What to expect:
• Your benefits will not stop on June 1
• The county will go over your eligibility at your next annual renewal
• If you are subject to these rules, you will need to log around 80 hours per month through work, volunteering, or approved training to keep your benefits beyond three months

We are so grateful for community partners who show up for local neighbors. Today, Del Sol Lions Club donated more than 400 pounds of nutritious nonperishable food and personal care items to CRC’s Food & Nutrition Center, helping restock our shelves. 💚

As CalFresh benefit changes affect many local households, community support like this matters more than ever. Thank you to Club Director Caroline Matthews and the Del Mar - Solana Beach Lions Club for bringing by these generous donations and helping make sure neighbors can access the food and essentials they need with dignity.

Maria’s path to healing began with a phone call: “I was homeless for many years and called CRC for help. Since then my life has been stable and healing.”

With support from CRC, Maria worked with her case manager to find stability, secure an apartment and begin rebuilding her life. Today, she has a stable home and visits CRC’s Food & Nutrition Center for nourishing food. She shares, “The CRC Food Pantry helps me have enough food every month. I’ve always been treated with respect and dignity.”

Right now, with more households across our community at risk of losing food benefits due to federal changes, your support matters more than ever.

Please give today to help provide healthy food for neighbors who need it most. Text CRC to 91999 or visit crcncc.org/feedinghope.
