2012 STATE PBL RESULTS

9 ESU Students attended the state PBL contest. The results are shown below (all have qualified in 1 or 2 events should they decide to go to San Antonio this summer):

Business Ethics: Mallory West (BE) & Kelly Oltman (BE) (team) = 1st
Computer Applications: Jacob Winkler (IS) = 3rd
Financial Services: Russell Cornelius (BA) = 1st
Small Business Plan: Russell Cornelius (BA) = 1st
Sales Presentation: Jessica Dhority (BE) = 2nd
Business Presentation: Jessica Dhority (BE) = 1st; Blake Ballinger (BE) & Becky Fraker (BE) = 2nd
Future Business Teacher: Mallory West (BE) = 2nd; Shannon Mangnall (BE) = 3rd
Digital Video: Shannon Mangnall (BE) & Jessica Dhority (BE) = 1st
Free Enterprise Project (entire chapter): 1st
Parly Pro Demonstration (entire chapter): 2nd
Business Law: Mallory West (BE): 1st; Blake Ballinger (BE): 2nd
Management Concepts: Blake Ballinger (BE): 1st
Marketing Concepts: Blake Ballinger (BE): 2nd

Overall, we felt really good about our performance this year. I am always disappointed that we don’t have more in PBL because the competition is so good for them (especially in the speaking events—when they have to defend management/business/marketing decisions they have made in 20 minutes to the panel of 3 judges [case studies]). The judges this year were pretty tough and gave great feedback on content as well as presentation.

Founders' Day is the time when ESU pays tribute to the foresight of those who established Kansas State Normal School in 1863. The school held its first day of class on February 15, 1865, with 18 teacher education students meeting for classes on the second floor of the district’s school house.

Today, Emporia State University has an enrollment of almost 6,000 students, over 60,000 living alumni, and offers 42 undergraduate and 27 graduate degrees. Ranked as a Tier 1 Top 100 Regional University and cited as a best value for our School of Business by U.S. News & World Report, the university continues to excel. Help us celebrate our tradition of excellence as we continue our efforts towards future successes.
