During these difficult times, you may be struggling to get food and basic supplies. Here are local resources in our community to help you out. Remember, to reach out to Crosswinds or Gillund Counseling Services if you need help dealing with anxiety, depression or other difficult emotions. We will get through this and life will return to normal. We each have to do our part not to spread the virus. Gratitude lists are a good thing to do each day. Also,call a friend, neighbor or loved one to check on them. Take care of yourself, you are valuable and important!

Due to this evolving situation, some of this information may be subject to change. ● Starting Monday (3/23), Abundant Harvest will offer free drive-thru cooked, packaged, and bagged meals from 5 to 5:30 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays at 1028 Whittier St. Each bag will consist of three main course servings, three fruit servings, three vegetable servings, three bread servings and three snack cake servings. Food will be packaged and bagged. Drive-thru only, while supplies last. One bag per person. Must be present to get food.

● The Americus Community Food Pantry (413 Walnut St, Americus) will be open on Saturday morning (3/21). Individuals can pick up pre-packaged food boxes from a cart outside the pantry.

● ECKAN (East Central Kansas Economic Opportunity Corporation) in Emporia is currently phone contact only. Call 620-342-4607 to discuss your needs. Food bags can be provided for pick up as needed while supplies are available.

● Connie Ford-Lewis and John Scott are offering free lunches Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at various locations in Emporia. Check the Emporia Kansas Area Chat page for the day's location.

● Corky's Cupboard is still operating to support ESU students facing food insecurity. The location for pick-up of food is now over at the Student Wellness Center (Morse building) open 8 a.m to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Students will need to show their ID to get food once a week.

● Emporia First Church of the Nazarene (2931 W 24th Ave) will have sack lunches available for families that can be picked up through their drive thru on Thursday (3/19) between 5 to 8 p.m. This is an effort to help ease any hunger issues for kids due to not being in school. They will have 500 bags for Thursday. Bags will include enough food for two meals.

● First Congregational Church (326 W 12th Ave) will be offering drive-thru meals on Saturday from 11:30 to 12:30.

● Food for Students is packaging remaining supplies and seeking ways to deliver those to kids in need. More details to come.

● Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church (106 Exchange St.) will open the John & Frances Ice Soup Kitchen & Food Pantry on Sundays on the north side of Sacred Heart Parish Hall. This will be a drive-thru service only. Pre-boxed food pantry items will be available for pick-up from 4 to 6 p.m. and to-go meals will be available from 4 to 5 p.m.

● Little Food Pantries (Norton and South Exchange, 1702 West 15th, 710 Commercial in Emporia) are available. Food can be donated and food may be taken out of the 24/7/365 blessing boxes. At times, the boxes may be empty for a period of time; however, boxes may be filled at any given time.

● The Salvation Army (327 Constitution) is still operating by appointment for now. Office hours are 12 to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Call in advance at 620-342-3093 or contact through Facebook. Staff will check eligibility and then set up an appointment to pick up food. Curbside service will be provided. As of 3/18, the Salvation Army announced that financial assessments will be waived at this point, but a photo ID and proof of residence in Lyon County will be required. By 1 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, the Salvation Army will post on Facebook about whether breadline will be offered. If sufficient supplies are available, a drive-thru service will be offered.

● The First Christian Church pantry (202 East 12th St, Emporia) is open Mondays and Tuesdays 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Come to the north door and ring the bell. Individuals can come once a calendar month.

● USD 253 in Emporia is providing “grab-and-go” meals for students. Free lunches for the afternoon and breakfasts for the next morning will be available from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Emporia Middle School and Logan Avenue Elementary. The meals are for children age 18 and below. Update: As of 3/23, meals will also be available at Riverside, Walnut, William Allen White, and Village Elementary Schools.

During the Stay at Home order we will continue to make contact with individuals on Community Corrections and bond supervision. We are maintaining our Cognitive groups, Seeking Safety and Fathering group through Zoom meetings. Individual contacts are by phone and zoom meeting. Please contact your officer if you need assistance or resources. Attached is the online AA meeting schedule which is a great resource. Please stay safe, practice social distancing and stay active during this difficult time.

Lyon County Community Corrections — is seeking a Secretary. This is a Full-Time non-exempt position with full county benefits offered! The position requires a High school diploma or equivalent and class C driver’s license. Microsoft office 2010 and newer knowledge and attention to detail a must! It is essential to have the ability to receive, interpret and follow verbal and written instructions. Required to read, write and speak English fluently with the ability to speak a foreign language helpful. Preferred applicants would have 12 months of relevant work experience and paralegal experience is a plus. Foreign language mastery, in addition to English, is also desirable.
