🐄 LOST LIVESTOCK NOTICE 🐄

The Rains County Sheriff’s Office is trying to locate the owner of a black bull and a black cow that were found near County Road 2540 and County Road 2610.

The animals did not appear to have any visible ear tags or brands for identification.

They are currently safe and secured in a pasture on County Road 2540. We appreciate the reporting party for helping care for the livestock while we work to locate the owner.

If you or someone you know may be missing livestock matching this description, please contact the Rains County Sheriff’s Office.

If the animals are not claimed within five (5) days, a Notice of Estray will be completed, and the livestock will be transferred to the Emory Livestock Barn in accordance with Texas estray procedures.

Please share to help reunite these livestock with their owners.

THIS IS A SCAM.

Please be aware:
• The Sheriff’s Office does NOT have a “Warrant Division.”
• We do NOT call citizens to notify them of warrants or request payment over the phone.
• Legitimate law enforcement will NEVER demand money, gift cards, or personal information to resolve a warrant.

If you receive a call like this:
Do NOT provide personal or financial information
Do NOT send money or make payments
Hang up immediately
Report the call to your local law enforcement agency

From Rains County Emergency Management:

Rains County Public Notice

On Thursday, April 2, 2026, at the request of Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM), a statewide test of emergency alerting systems will occur between 10:00 AM and 12:30 PM. As part of this drill, local jurisdictions across Texas may test systems used to notify the public during emergencies. Depending on the jurisdiction you are in at the time of test, you may receive a test alert on your mobile phone and/or hear outdoor warning sirens. Rains County will activate its emergency notification system/activate a WEA alert to cellphones through our emergency notification system during this time.

Because jurisdictions across the region may participate in this test, you may receive more than one test alert on your phone during the testing time window.

This will only be a test. No emergency action is required.

Testing helps ensure emergency alert systems function properly and allows agencies to evaluate how alerts are delivered during real emergencies.

Rains County Citizens please be advised that the Sheriff's Office has no internet access, we are being told this is a city wide issue. Please call 911 for all calls until this can be resolved and share with everyone so they know how to contact the Sheriff's Office.
