Parents... if you've already heard "I'm bored!" at least once this summer, we can help. Our Palo Alto County Summer Workshops are packed with hands-on fun that keeps kids learning, creating, and making new friends.

From cupcake decorating and babysitting skills to soap making, game night, and a special Dinner & a Movie featuring Hamilton, there's something for a variety of interests.

💚 You DO NOT have to be a 4-H member to attend! These workshops are open to ALL youth. Bring a friend, bring a neighbor, bring your cousin visiting for the summer!

🌲🎣 Adventure Awaits at Outdoor Skills Day! 🔥🏹🦅

Looking for a day filled with outdoor fun, new experiences, and hands-on learning? Join us for Outdoor Skills Day at the Palo Alto County Conservation Board / Lost Island Nature Center!

Youth will have the opportunity to explore a variety of outdoor activities while learning valuable skills from local experts and volunteers. Participants will try their hand at fishing and casting, learn the basics of fire starting, test their aim in archery, discover the fascinating world of bird watching, and get up close with local wildlife through animal viewing experiences.

The day will also include fun outdoor games, opportunities to meet new friends, and plenty of chances to explore the outdoors. Whether you're already an outdoor enthusiast or just looking to try something new, there's something for everyone!

As an added bonus, every youth who attends will receive a FREE fishing rod and reel thanks to the generous support of the Iowa Great Lakes Fishing Club, along with additional fishing gear donated by Pure Fishing!

🐑🐐🐄 Ready to put your livestock judging skills to work? Whether you are brand new to judging or already have experience in the ring, this workshop is for YOU!

Join us on Saturday, May 31st at 3:00 PM at Holmes Farms for an afternoon full of hands-on practice, class discussions, and learning how to confidently line up classes. Youth will practice using a Steno notebook while judging breeding heifers, breeding sheep, market lambs, and breeding goats.

We’ll wrap up the evening with group discussion and a light dinner. Oral reasons are not currently planned but may be added if there is enough interest.

Register today for On Their Own and Ok!

This workshop to build skills in youth and incorporate ways for adults in the home to support this step towards independence. Youth can develop their self-care skills to make good decisions while staying home alone. With adequate education from parents/caregivers, teachers, and community partners, young people can develop confidence in the skills they need for staying home alone safely.

Another incredible leadership opportunity is coming up with When Everyone Leads, a powerful program designed to build confidence, communication skills, and real-world leadership experience.

This opportunity is typically offered only to County Council members, but has now been opened to ALL youth in grades 9–12. It’s a unique chance to step into leadership learning alongside peers from across the region.

The program will be held at the Palo Alto Extension Office in two evening sessions:
June 1st from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM
June 2nd from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM

Registration is due May 25th.

This is a program is highly recommend, it is engaging, practical, and truly impactful for youth looking to grow as leaders.
