Continuing Education in Action

Today, Emerson Fire Department was proud to host Capt. Micah Rains of the Greenville City Fire Department for an impactful training session on Detailed Leadership and Aggressive Tactics.
Capt. Rains shared his expertise with members of our department and our mutual aid partners — a great reminder that the best firefighters never stop learning.

Stronger together. Always training. Always ready.

🚪 This door saved lives today.

Look closely at the top of this door frame, that’s soot and smoke damage from a garage fire on Congress Road this afternoon. The fire stopped here. The closed door between the garage and the living space made all the difference.

Emerson Fire Department, with help from Oradell, Washington Township, and Paramus FDs, knocked it down fast. No injuries. But the real hero? That door.

🔥 Close your doors at night. Every night.

We kicked off the day with an Easter Egg Hunt, photos with the Easter Bunny, and wrapped it up with an egg toss that didn’t disappoint.

Thank you to all the families who came out and shared the morning with us!

Emerson … Spring Forward Today! ⏰

When setting your clocks forward for daylight saving time, please take a few extra minutes to check your smoke alarms:

• Test each smoke alarm in your home. 💨

• Replace the batteries with fresh ones (if your unit uses replaceable batteries). 🔋

• Check the manufacture date on the back.
Did you know smoke alarms expire? 🗓️

• And, if you have a 10-year battery detector, remember to test it! ⚡️

A quick check today can make a life-saving difference tonight!

As you know, we may have snow accumulations of up to 16 inches today, with wind gusts up to 50 mph. We currently have “whiteout” conditions, making travel treacherous and potentially life-threatening.

To help keep Emerson safe, please follow these important guidelines:

- Keep fire hydrants and intersections clear of snow.
- Stay off the roads, and travel only if absolutely necessary.
- Do NOT throw snow back into roadways.
- Stay away from downed trees and power lines.
- Call 911 only for life-threatening emergencies.
- Report power outages directly to PSE&G at 1-800-436-7734.

Thank you for your cooperation. Please stay home and stay safe!

Tonight the Emerson Volunteer Fire Department hosted an important Electric Vehicle Awareness training session with EZ Ride and the Electric Vehicle Association. Our firefighters gained valuable knowledge about EV safety, emergency response protocols for accidents and fires, and had the opportunity to work hands-on with real electric vehicles right on our apparatus floor.

We were honored to welcome firefighters from 14 neighboring departments who joined us for this critical training: Bergenfield, Closter, Cresskill, Dumont, Hillsdale, Northvale, Old Tappan, Oradell, Paramus, Park Ridge, River Edge, River Vale, Saddle Brook, Tenafly, and Westwood.

A huge thank you to EZ Ride and the Electric Vehicle Association for bringing this essential training to our community. As EVs become more common on our roads, this knowledge helps us better serve and protect our residents.
