Night at the Races was so much fun it knocked our director out for almost a week!

A BIG thank you to our presenting sponsors LiUNA! Local 758, Foundations Health Solutions, and the Italian American Veterans Post #1.

We'd also like to thank VFW Post 1079 for hosting, Chef John Seely of Chefs for Seniors for the delicious food, and Oberlin Hearing Care for sponsoring the dessert provided by Foundations Health Solutions and Big Mouth Donuts! Rotarians Amanda Deery and Chris Pyanowski kept the raffle tickets flying for the baskets so generously donated by the community!

There was stiff competition among our Infield Table Sponsors Lorain Public Library System, LIFE A Dementia Friendly Foundation, Sprenger Healthcare, Margaret T. Karl, Attorney at Law, LLC, Second Harvest Food Bank of North Central Ohio, Careforth, DLB Golden Insurance, and the friends and family of Betty Berthold but DLB Golden Insurance's Winner's Circle took the prize!

Jill Smelko of Seniors Helping Seniors Northern Ohio went all out and won the ladies best hat competition. While the family of our very own Case Manger Heather won most dapper gentleman and best dressed couple! Thank you Dr. Sheldon for your judging skills!

Finally we could not have pulled off the event without Star Night at the Races and the incredibly dedicated staff of Office on Aging along with their voluntold family members!

With your support we raised just over $10,0000--all of which directly benefits Lorain County's older adults.

Be on the lookout for our next events--Moonlight Magic on August 21st and The Aging Well Senior Expo on October 7th.

This is a reminder for tomorrow's Second Harvest's Community Conversation, featuring "Senior Voices", in partnership with Lorain County Office on Aging (534 Abbe Rd S, Elyria) on May 5 from 11 AM - 1 PM. This event is graciously hosted by the Lorain County Sustainability Learning Center next door, so please enter through their door to the right.

This event will highlight the Second Harvest network in Lorain County and across the region, our efforts to meet the rising need for food assistance among senior populations, and define the public and private partnerships that impact our work. Community residents, organizations, and leaders will hear directly from those we serve and from our local partners, helping to ensure your community has the resources it needs to thrive.

Community Conversations are open to the public, so please share network-wide with local officials, community leaders, and neighbors. We are especially interested in hearing from those who need food assistance or assist senior populations.

It is not too late to register! A light lunch will be served at this event. To help ensure we have enough food, kindly register at the following link:

We look forward to seeing you and working together to meet the needs of neighbors in Lorain County.
