Thank you to the Lorain County Ohio Government Commissioners for proclaiming September as National Kinship Month here in Lorain County!

Kinship care plays a vital role in keeping children connected to their families, cultures, and communities during challenging times. Relatives who step in to care for children help create stability, strengthen families, and build a brighter future for youth across our community.

We deeply appreciate and celebrate the incredible kinship families who step up every day for Lorain County’s children. ❤️

Every recovery story has the power to change minds and save lives. When people speak openly about their journeys, they reduce stigma, inspire hope, and show what real recovery looks like.

This Recovery Month, we’re celebrating the milestones reached, the relationships rebuilt, and the lives lived fully in recovery. Authentic storytelling changes how policies are shaped, how resources are allocated, and how people in recovery are supported.

Every story shared brings us closer to a more recovery-ready America.

September is National Recovery Month! Each week, we will be sharing helpful information and resources from our friends SAMHSA. Research shows meaningful human connection supports resilience, hope, and long-term recovery. Every connection can make a difference.

Connections come from different places: Families. Communities. Workplaces. Schools. Local organizations. Peer support. When these pieces work together as one coordinated network, communities create the conditions where lasting recovery becomes possible for more people.

The Great American Recovery starts with a simple belief: recovery is strongest when we build it together.

This summer, your family could grow in a way you never imagined!

Children in Lorain County need safe, supportive homes where they can heal, grow, and thrive. By becoming a foster parent, you can allow a child to remain in their own community and provide stability, encouragement, and hope during a difficult time.

Make the most of your summer, and make a lasting difference in a child's life.

It’s our final Foster Care Friday of May, and as we close out National Foster Care Month, we are honored to spotlight Iris and Heriberto, who became licensed foster parents with Lorain County Children Services in 2024 because they wanted to share the incredible love they have within their family. Their journey is a reminder that fostering begins with something simple but powerful: a willingness to open your heart to a child in need.

Throughout this month, we’ve celebrated foster parents who have changed lives through compassion, stability, and care. But the need for foster families in Lorain County continues, and there are children right now who need safe, supportive homes. Could you be the next family to make a difference?

Take the first step today by learning more about foster parenting at childrenservices.org/foster-parenting or by calling 440-329-5608.

Thank you to all of our incredible foster families for the love and hope you provide every day 💙
