It’s our final Foster Care Friday of May, and as we close out National Foster Care Month, we are honored to spotlight Iris and Heriberto, who became licensed foster parents with Lorain County Children Services in 2024 because they wanted to share the incredible love they have within their family. Their journey is a reminder that fostering begins with something simple but powerful: a willingness to open your heart to a child in need.

Throughout this month, we’ve celebrated foster parents who have changed lives through compassion, stability, and care. But the need for foster families in Lorain County continues, and there are children right now who need safe, supportive homes. Could you be the next family to make a difference?

Take the first step today by learning more about foster parenting at childrenservices.org/foster-parenting or by calling 440-329-5608.

Thank you to all of our incredible foster families for the love and hope you provide every day 💙

Happy Foster Care Awareness Month! We wanted to kick off the month by clearing up some common misconceptions about foster care:

Myth #1: You have to be married and have a perfect home to foster in Ohio

In reality, foster parents come from a variety of different backgrounds. You can be single, renting your home, and working full-time. When it comes down to it, what truly matters is that you can provide a safe, stable environment for the children.

Myth #2: Foster Care is a Pipeline to Adoption

When it comes to foster care, the primary goal is to reunite families. When you are fostering a child, you are not only supporting the child, but also their family during a temporary time of need.

Myth #3: If You Foster a Child, You Have to Do It Alone

When you foster a child, you are backed by a full support system, including agencies, training programs, and plenty of ongoing resources to help guide you every step of the way.

Foster care truly isn’t about perfection; it is about being present and providing support to children in need. If you’ve ever thought about fostering, but are unsure if you are qualified to take the next steps, don’t let misinformation and assumptions stop you.

Thank you to the Lorain County Ohio Government Commissioners for recognizing May as National Foster Care Month and for their continued support of children and families in our community. 💙

This proclamation helps shine a light on the incredible impact foster parents and kinship caregivers make every day in the lives of children experiencing foster care.

We were especially thrilled to have Diane join us for the proclamation this morning. Diane has served as a foster parent for 28 years, opening her heart and home to children in need and making a lasting difference in countless lives along the way.

We are deeply grateful to Diane and all of the foster families who provide safety, stability, compassion, and hope to children throughout Lorain County. Together, we can help ensure every child has the opportunity to grow up in a safe, supportive, and loving environment.
