🎉☀️ End of Summer Bash 2026! ☀️🎉

The Lorain Opportunity & Vocational Center celebrated the end of summer in style at our annual picnic on September 2!

The day was filled with fun, laughter, and great food. Consumers enjoyed a variety of activities, including face painting, BINGO, Plinko, and everyone's favorite, the dunking booth, where they had a blast trying to dunk their favorite staff members! 💦😄

A special thank you to Penni Shuster for treating everyone to delicious cotton candy, and to Mark McIlwaine for grilling up juicy cheeseburgers that were enjoyed by all. 🍔🍭

As tradition continues, the afternoon ended with plenty of dancing, smiles, and laughter. It was the perfect way to celebrate the end of summer with friends and coworkers.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make our End of Summer Bash such a fun and memorable day. We appreciate all who contributed to making this event so special! ❤️

🍕🎉 Congratulations to our Summer 2026 PEERS® graduates!

Over 20 sessions, participants at LOVC and OOVC worked hard to build social skills, strengthen friendships, and gain confidence through the adapted Program for the Education and Enrichment of Relational Skills (PEERS®).

Led by Jennifer Hakko, Speech Language Pathologist, the group explored topics such as conversation skills, friendship building, conflict resolution, social etiquette, and online safety.

The summer concluded with a pizza party at LOVC, bringing everyone together to celebrate their achievements. We are so proud of all their hard work and growth!

Remembering 9/11 at Murray Ridge Center

Today, the Oberlin Opportunity and Vocational Center (OOVC) family came together to honor and remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001.

This morning's memorial served as a meaningful reminder of the courage, sacrifice, and unity that emerged from one of our nation's most tragic days. Staff member Kevin Chutes led a group of Adult Program participants in creating a magnificent 6' x 12' American flag from cardboard, which was proudly displayed outside throughout the day as a symbol of patriotism and remembrance.

Everyone gathered around the outdoor flagpole as Habilitation Manager, John Syrowski shared words honoring the victims, survivors, first responders, and all those impacted by the events of 9/11. Together, we recited the Pledge of Allegiance and observed a moment of silence in memory of the lives forever changed by that day.

One by one, individuals approached the flagpole and rang a handheld bell, a powerful symbolic gesture representing their commitment to "Never Forget." As patriotic music filled the air, the ceremony provided an opportunity for reflection, gratitude, and remembrance.

At Murray Ridge Center and OOVC, we remain committed to honoring the memory of those we lost and remembering the resilience, strength, and unity that continue to inspire us.

A day filled with kindness, compassion, and plenty of purrs! 🐱❤️

Our Oberlin Adult Program participants recently volunteered at Friendship APL, where they helped clean and organize while also spending time socializing with the shelter cats. The smiles were contagious as participants bonded with the animals, offering love, attention, and companionship.

Volunteer opportunities like this provide meaningful ways to connect with our community while making a positive impact. We are so proud of our participants for their dedication, generosity, and willingness to lend a helping hand. Thank you to Friendship APL for having us and for all you do to care for animals in need! 🐾

Because of extensive and potential upcoming changes to compliance reviews and mandatory regulations, the Provider Support Team will host a Compliance Overview Training on Tuesday, September 15th.

Providers will have two opportunities to attend:

Virtual Training – 9:00 AM

🍂📚 The Fall Semester Is Underway at Oberlin College! 📚🍂

Classes officially began on August 26, and our Adult Program participants from LOVC were just as excited to get back to work!

Through our Supported Employment services, participants have the opportunity to work at Oberlin College, helping keep the campus cafeteria running smoothly by washing dishes and supporting the food service team. Their hard work, dedication, and positive attitudes make a difference every day.

Their smiles say it all! 😊 They take pride in their work, enjoy being part of a team, and make meaningful contributions to their workplace and community.

We are so proud of their accomplishments and grateful for partnerships like Oberlin College that help create opportunities for success, growth, and inclusion.

🦁🐘 What an amazing day at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo!

A group of Adult Program participants from LOVC recently enjoyed a fun-filled outing, exploring the zoo and taking in the beautiful Asian Lantern Festival displays. The day was filled with opportunities for learning, laughter, and adventure as they discovered wildlife from around the world.

One of the biggest highlights was getting an up-close look at the majestic elephants! 🐘✨

We are grateful for opportunities like these that create lasting memories and meaningful experiences for those we serve. ❤️
