๐ผ Trezona Trail Pollinator Habitat Restoration Project ๐ผ
You may notice portions of the Trezona Trail looking a little brown or dormant this year. Don't worryโthis is all part of an exciting habitat restoration project underway!
The City, in partnership with the North St. Louis Soil and Water Conservation District, is working to remove invasive plant species and restore over 90,000 square feet (more than 2 acres) of land with native, pollinator-friendly vegetation.
This project is funded through the Conservation Partners Legacy (CPL) Grant Program, which supports efforts to restore and protect Minnesota's forests, wetlands, prairies, and wildlife habitat through funding from Minnesota's Outdoor Heritage Fund.
As part of the restoration process, a selective herbicide was applied to target invasive species and turf grass. While the area may appear brown now, this is an important first step. This fall, the site will be seeded with a diverse mix of native wildflowers and grasses designed to support pollinators, birds, and other wildlife.
Native prairie plants spend their first years establishing deep root systems, so it may take 1โ2 years before the full beauty and benefits of the restoration are visible. The long-term result will be a healthier, more resilient habitat for generations to enjoy.
Interested in helping care for this special place? We hope to involve local volunteers in future stewardship and maintenance efforts. Anyone interested in getting involved is encouraged to contact Lucy Soderstrom at the Ely Folk School.
Thank you for your patience and support as we work to improve habitat along the Trezona Trail! ๐ฆ๐๐ป๐ฟ
