🎀 OCTOBER IS BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH 🎀

This month, you may notice a little more pink around the firehouse. Our crews are proudly wearing their Breast Cancer Awareness shirts to show their support for those affected by breast cancer and to honor the survivors, fighters, and loved ones who have been impacted by this disease.

For us, wearing pink is more than just a shirt. It’s a reminder of the strength of our community and the importance of standing together to support one another. 💗

From our crews to our community — we wear pink for a purpose. 🎀 🚒

💚💛 A HUGE THANK YOU TO PFLUG PACKAGING! 💛💚

We want to give a big shoutout to Pflug Packaging for generously donating a pallet of Gatorade to support our drill tower training! 🚒💧

Staying hydrated is essential during firefighter training, and this donation will help keep our crews fueled and hydrated while they work hard to train and prepare to serve our community.

We are incredibly grateful for the support of local businesses like Pflug Packaging that invest in our firefighters and our mission. Thank you for being part of our team! 🙌

☕🥞 Senior Breakfast Recap! 🥞☕

We had a wonderful morning connecting with our community seniors over breakfast, conversation, and important preparedness information!

🎤 We also heard from Mayor Doug Jenco, Fire Chief Chris Locacius, Police Chief Marc Reid, FLSE Ehrin, Officer Sarah, and Officer Alex, who shared information and updates with our seniors.

📻 Each senior received a weather radio, generously provided by the Village of Elwood, Jackson Township, and Elwood Fire Protection District, our event sponsors.

🏅 We also had the honor of presenting the first official Elwood Fire Protection District Challenge Coin to Norm Fanning. The second coin was presented to FLSE Ehrin in recognition of a CPR student who successfully performed a choking save shortly after completing training.

A special thank you to our guest speakers, everyone who helped make the event possible, and Silver Dollar Restaurant for hosting us!

Most importantly, thank you to all of the seniors who joined us. ❤️

Great food. Great people. A stronger community. 🚒

🚒🔥 OCTOBER IS FIRE PREVENTION MONTH! 🔥🚒

This October, we’re Charging Into Fire Safety! ⚡

We kicked off Fire Prevention Month this morning with a special Ride to School for our Ride to School winner, Wyatt! 🚒🚌

Wyatt won the ride during our National Night Out raffle, and we were excited to start the month by giving him a ride to school with our crew! Congratulations, Wyatt! 🎉

This year’s theme reminds us that the way we use and charge our everyday devices matters. From phones and tablets to laptops and other battery-powered devices, safe charging habits can help prevent fires.

Throughout the month, we’ll be sharing simple fire safety tips to help keep you, your family, and our community safe.

🔋 Charge devices on a hard, flat surface.
🔌 Use the charger recommended for your device.
🛏️ Never charge devices under a pillow, blanket, or on your bed.
🚨 If a battery becomes damaged, swollen, unusually hot, or starts to smell, stop using it.

Stay tuned all month as we Charge Into Fire Safety! ⚡🔥

🚒📚 Public Education Recap! 📚🚒

It’s been a busy time for Fire & Life Safety Education at Elwood Fire Protection District! Here’s a look at some of the recent programs we’ve had the opportunity to bring to our school community:

🩹 7th Grade: Students learned essential first aid skills and how to respond when someone is injured.

🧯 8th Grade: Students learned about fire extinguishers, followed by a hands-on burn pan demonstration with help from our fire crew.

🚒 2nd & 5th Grade: Students visited the fire station for station tours, where they learned about the fire service, our equipment, and what firefighters do every day.

❤️ Elwood School Teachers: Staff completed CPR certification, giving them the skills and confidence to respond during a cardiac emergency.

We’re proud to provide hands-on education that helps our community prevent emergencies, prepare for them, and know what to do when they happen.

Teaching today for a safer tomorrow. ❤️🚒
