UPDATE: The U.S. National Weather Service (NWS) has upgraded the risk for severe weather for tomorrow (Wednesday) to "moderate" (level 4 of 5) for central Illinois.

Possibilities include damaging winds with gusts up to 60-75 mph, large hail, scattered tornadoes, and flash flooding.

We know you're tired of storms. But we have to be prepared.

*UPDATE: As of 11:40 AM, the railroad crossing is functioning and the roadway is reopen!

*TRAFFIC ALERT*

The railroad crossing on Manhattan Road between Brandon Road and Route 53 is currently DOWN! The Elwood Police Department have notified Union Pacific of the issue - Avoid the area and make route adjustments accordingly! Thank you!

The National Weather Service is forecasting a second round of strong to severe storms for our area today. Please review the timing graphic below and stay weather aware throughout the afternoon and evening.

Now is a good time to:
✅ Charge your phones and electronic devices
✅ Review your family's severe weather plan
✅ Secure outdoor items that could become airborne
✅ Make sure you have multiple ways to receive weather warnings

🌪️ Remember: Outdoor warning sirens are designed to alert people who are outside. They may not be heard indoors, especially while sleeping, during heavy rain, or when the TV is on. Every household should have at least two reliable ways to receive emergency alerts, such as a NOAA Weather Radio, Wireless Emergency Alerts on your phone, local media, or trusted weather apps.

If a Tornado Warning is issued, move immediately to the lowest level of a sturdy building and put as many walls between you and the outside as possible. Avoid windows and large open rooms.
