Honoring Juneteenth Through Learning and Reflection

As our Elton High School Beta students travel back home from the National Beta Convention, they took time to make a meaningful stop at the historic National Civil Rights Museum, located at the former Lorraine Motel, the site where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated on April 4, 1968.

On this Juneteenth, a day that commemorates freedom, resilience, and the ongoing pursuit of equality, our students had the opportunity to walk through history and gain a deeper understanding of the sacrifices made by those who fought for civil rights and justice.

Experiences like these remind us that education extends far beyond the classroom. By connecting with our nation's history firsthand, our students are developing a greater appreciation for the courage, perseverance, and leadership that continue to shape our communities today.

We are proud of our Elton High School Beta members for representing our school while embracing opportunities to learn, reflect, and grow.

Ready to pass the HiSET test and move forward with your education, career, and life goals?

The Literacy Council of Southwest Louisiana is offering an exciting opportunity for adult learners through our Online HiSET Fast Track Program!

What is HiSET Fast Track?
Our Fast Track Program is an accelerated 5-Day online preparation course designed to help eligible students review key academic subjects and strengthen test-taking skills before taking the HiSET exam.

Virtual Classes via Zoom start in July!

📅 Class 1: July 6 – July 10
🕔 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM

📅 Class 2: July 13 – July 17
🕔 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM

📚 Students will review:
✅ Reading
✅ Writing
✅ Mathematics
✅ Science
✅ Social Studies

🎯 Plus, learn proven test-taking strategies to build confidence and improve your chances of success on the HiSET exam.

Eligibility Requirements
✔ Must be 19 years of age or older
✔ Must have a valid email address
✔ Must be comfortable learning online and using basic technology tools

Please join us in congratulating Elton High School student Ruby J on an outstanding achievement!

Ruby earned 1st Place in the 2026 High School ArcGIS Online Competition in the High School division with her project titled “A Map of Sensory Friendly Businesses in Louisiana.”

This incredible accomplishment highlights not only Ruby’s hard work and creativity, but also her desire to make a positive impact for individuals and families across our state. Her project demonstrates innovation, compassion, and the meaningful ways technology can be used to serve others.

We are extremely proud of Ruby for representing Elton High School with excellence and for showcasing the talent and leadership of our students.
