Traffic Safety Enforcement & Community Partnership

Officers with the Elsberry Police Department will be conducting traffic enforcement details throughout the community and along the Highway 79 corridor. During some traffic stops, drivers may receive one of the informational reminder cards pictured below.

These cards highlight crash statistics in Lincoln County and provide simple reminders that can help keep everyone safe on the road.

This effort is part of our continued partnership with the 79 Safe Coalition, along with neighboring law enforcement agencies and traffic safety partners, working together to reduce crashes and save lives along Highway 79 and throughout Lincoln County.

📊 Traffic Safety Facts:
• 4,831 crashes in Lincoln County (2020–2025)
• 82 fatalities during that same time period
• 81.4% of vehicle occupant fatalities were unbelted

Our goal is not just enforcement — it’s education, awareness, and prevention.

✔ Slow down
✔ Buckle up
✔ Avoid distractions
✔ Never drive impaired

Together with the 79 Safe Coalition, we are committed to making our roadways safer for everyone who travels through our community.

🚨 SCAM ALERT – FAKE “MISSOURI DMV” TEXT MESSAGES 🚨

The Elsberry Police Department has been made aware of fraudulent text messages circulating that claim to be from the “Missouri DMV” demanding payment for an unresolved traffic ticket.

The message threatens penalties such as:
• Driver’s license suspension
• Vehicle registration suspension

• Credit impacts

It also includes a link demanding immediate payment.

⚠️ THIS IS A SCAM.

The State of Missouri will not send text messages demanding immediate payment for traffic violations, and you should never click links or provide personal information from unsolicited texts.

• Do NOT click the link
• Do NOT reply to the message

• Report the message as spam through your phone carrier

If you have concerns about a legitimate traffic citation, contact the court that issued the citation directly.

📞 Contacting the Elsberry Police Department

We would like to remind everyone that the quickest way to get in contact with our officers is by calling our Central Dispatch Center at 636-528-6100 ext. 1.

Our officers are not always at the police station to answer the department phones, as they are frequently on patrol or responding to calls for service throughout the community. Dispatch can immediately contact an officer and have them respond if needed.

Traffic Safety Reminder

Sergeant Sutton is on patrol today and would like to remind everyone traveling through town to slow down and drive safely.

Earlier today, officers observed speeds as high as 62 MPH in a posted 30 MPH zone on Main Street. Speeds like this create a serious safety risk for other motorists, pedestrians, and residents.

The Elsberry Police Department will continue to monitor traffic throughout the day to help keep our community safe. Please remember to obey posted speed limits, stay alert, and drive responsibly.

Slow down — your safety and the safety of others depends on it.
