Quick Convos for Growth:
The thing that jumped out to me in this podcast was the idea to teach students to self-reflect. Pernille says that it means a lot more for them to realize what they accomplished than being told, and I believe in this from past experiences with students as well as myself. Of course some students will try to avoid responsibility, but is important to have those conversations about how they feel they can show what they learned.
¨The kids who were not behaving needed control over something.¨ This statement speaks volumes to me. It took me a long time to come around to this as an educator, but I fully believe this.
Teachers - In what ways have you given your students more control in the classroom? What works for you? What hasn´t?
Parents - Do you have any thoughts on this concept? Have you had experiences where you felt your students have been given control in the school setting (good or bad)? How can you apply these ideas at home?
What can school leaders do?
