Westchester Library System

Westchester Library System Over 60 years of providing innovation, support and service to the member libraries in Westchester County.

WLS plays an important role in improving the capacity of member libraries. Technical assistance on operations, programs, fundraising and technology make WLS an important resource for member libraries. WLS’ management and operations of the online library and internet access system constitutes the largest telecommunications network in Westchester County with over 1000 networked terminals at 44 libra

ry sites, serving 1,437,136 computer users and free wifi access at all sites. WLS provides cataloging services to maintain consistency and quality control over the information in the WLS catalog, and operates an expansive inter-library loan program among local, regional and international sources to find items not found in WLS libraries. Effectively and efficiently, WLS coordinates the sharing of library resources among the member libraries, distributing over 1 million items annually, saving libraries millions of dollars. Other shared resources include collection development systems, system-wide purchasing of technologies, and electronic holdings, including e-books and e-readers, learning and research databases and a unique Spanish language catalog using Spanish vocabulary– for individuals searching materials not yet fluent in English.

From the mountains to the sea, there are plenty of reasons to love where we live. This regular column counts the ways we love thee, HV.

Pleased to join the Yonkers Public Library (YPL) staff and Board of Trustees and Mayor Mike Spano to celebrate the newly repaved parking lot at the Yonkers Grinton I. Will Library. I was happy to have helped secure funding for this project and to work with The City of Yonkers and YPL to improve this important public space, making the library safer and more accessible.

Some of the best memories are made when we simply spend time together.

This library movie event is a great reminder that meaningful connections can happen through shared experiences. Gathering with family, friends, and neighbors for an afternoon at the library is exactly the kind of community-building that Disconnect to Reconnect celebrates.
