For those who wonder who to vote for in the school board race, I can honestly say the incumbents work incredibly well together. It is a balanced board- Chris Flask is amazing- he can take a discussion and boil it down too the salient points. He brings knowledge of the local biotech industry. Dave McCallum really cares about about staff and students, visiting campuses regularly to stay in touch. Whit asks those picky little questions that really are important- they get folks to
publicly clarify details and dig deep- he holds folks accountable and is very fiscally prudent and he
does this with students in mind. I bring knowledge of curriculum and instruction, a desire for us to move away from the rigid ways of program improvement to providing a rich education once more as well as heal some very long time wounds in the district caused by poor communication and decisions made far from the classroom.i bring historical knowledge of the last 37 years of VUSD. We differ among ourselves in philosophy which is healthy for a board- because we respect each other. No one grandstands. All want to hold admin accountable but do so in a collaborative way that has us all moving in a healthy direction to ensure we move, as superintendent Jacopetti says, " from good to great". Please vote the incumbents - we have a lot left to do!

There will be another candidate forum after all for Vacaville School Board candidates, and Shelley will be there. It will be from 7 to 9 p.m. this Thursday (Oct. 9) at the Fellowship Hall of Shiloh Baptist Church, 185 Chandler St., Vacaville. Sponsors include Tau Upsilon Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority; Solano Valley Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority; Tri-City Branch of the NAACP; and Solano County Chapter of Links, Inc. Thanks to each of these groups for taking an interest in the race!

One more chance for the public to look over the candidates for Vacaville Unified School District! Kairos Charter School will host a forum from 6 to 8 p.m. this Tuesday at the school, 129 Elm St. in Vacaville. The audience will get to ask questions via text message. Shelley will be there!
